I'm looking at getting the mweb special where you sign a 12month contract to get the first 3months free.
And I was wondering what happens if I cancel before the end of the 12months?
The t&c's say "Get the first 3 months of the 12 month subscription free only if the contract endures for the initial 12 months." , but are there other penalties? Would I still be able to cancel the contract before the 12months is up, or is it a lock-in like the cellphone networks?

Like any other contract you will be liable for 12 months. So if you want to cancel you must pay the remaining months.

In my opinion you don't ever sign a contract. If the service is not to your liking you have no recourse

Yeah, I wouldn't sign that contract. Nothing you can do if the service is horrible and nobody can fix it for you.

Lol, that sucks then, so if you cancel at any time, you wont even get 3months free, you will be liable for 12x the premium instead of just 9x the premium. Then just like a cellphone contract, there would be no point in cancelling, rather just let it run.

Never EVER sign a long-term contract with an ISP in this country. Our prices are volatile and could shoot further downwards at anytime (like they did with the 'uncapped' boom last year) and you don't want to be stuck getting a raw deal.

Hi reactor_sa,

If you would like, I can arrange for a Sales consultant to contact you with regards to the special and answer any questions you might have. Please PM me your contact details in order for me to do so.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Well if you take the all inclusive 4mbit....then you pay R675 per month essentially. (including ADSL but not the telephone line)

Which is quite good....prices would have to drop very significantly to make you lose any money.

@MWEB Guy:

How strict are they about the new customer only thing? I have an mweb account, but have 3 places I need accounts for.....so if i`m willing to switch all 3 places + lines to mweb, do I get the special? And how about 10mbps upgrades eventually? Would that be allowed?

Hi BrokenLink,

Please provide me with your current MWEB account details and ADSL land line number, I will then escalate your query to a sales consultant to investigate and will provide you with the feedback.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Jip rather pay more and go month to month. If you are not happy you can back out.

Hi BrokenLink,

We will grant you the 3 x 12 month contracts providing that it will be on 3 x different ADSL numbers and not numbers used with MWEB data already.

Also, you can only migrate after the 3 months free or we will have to apply for the All inclusive order on those numbers.

The same thing applies for the upgrade of the line speed. We will need your account details to confirm if the above will apply to you.

If you are still unclear, I can arrange for a sales consultant to contact you and explain in detail.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Hi reactor_sa,

Yes, there are penalties.

You will be billed for the remaining period of the contract. After the 12months it will go on the month to month which allows you to cancel with a 1 x calendar month's notice.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Hi Mweb Guy,

I called the Mweb sales centre to enquire about this special.

The consultant told me that because I have an existing telkom line I will be only be able to sign up for the data portion @R539 p/m. and not the all inclusive amount of R899 for both line and data. She told me that the all inclusive package is for new ADSL (note: not just new mweb subscribers) and existing adsl users are not entitled to it.

Surely this cannot be correct?

Is this correct?

Good Afternoon Griz, I will follow up with our sales and marketing team. I will then ensure that you are provided the relevant feedback.

So I was going to sign up for the special but now the call centre agent tells me I can't take the data+line option for 899 as I already have a adsl line with telkom isp. Apparently I have to have 2months of billing with mweb before I can get the line moved over to mweb. So which one is it? Because I already have the line with telkom isp, or because I dont have 2months billing with mweb???
Stuff this, if this is the **** I get before even signing up then count me out!! With webafrica I had my line with telkom for a 2days and webafrica managed to take over the line within days no problem, and mweb says blah blah blah whatever.... kpsh! Talk to the spam filter, I've got better things to do.

enough said.

0kbps downloads. no steam. slow facebook & youtube. no filesonic, fileshare or astraweb etc. slow email. no news servers. take your pick.

and you consider signing a contract? goodness gracious....

the only good thing about mweb is the mweb guy. i take my hat off to him and still be able to be diplomatic with so many complaining customers....
