Hey Guys,
Just wanted to run this by you to check.
I have a 1 Mbps Uncapped MWeb DSL line and rental for R339 pm. I started looking at upgrading to maybe 2 or 4 mbps uncapped, and contacted MWeb. Customer Care mailed me an upgrade form to 2 Mbps and quoted the price as R599.
I looked at the site where the 2 Mbps line and rental is quoted at R449. I mailed back and ask why the R150 discrepancy? He mentioned that the R599 package (couldn't find this on the website) ensures your line will not be throttled where as the R449 one your line could get throttled to their discretion.
I later also found this disclaimer on the site:
"MWEB reserves the right to throttle the ADSL service on the 2Mbps and 4Mbps line speed packages based on individual usage patterns and usage history."
This seems very strange to me.
1. Why did he not give you the options over the phone and explain the difference?
2. Why is the R599 package not mentioned on the site?
3. What is the exact requirement for being throttled (My usage is around 12 GB per month).
4. Most concerning, how would you now that your linespeed is being throttled anyway (except for checking on speedtest.net or the like)?
Is this standard practice across all ISP's?
Any comments please?
Regards
