Hi there

I currently have a 1 meg line by mweb. I want to upgrade to a 2 meg line. Can someone who is by mweb, and also upgraded to 2 meg help me in telling if it is worth it. The difference is R170. Will downloads be faster, and sometimes I use download accelerator.

Thanx

Chris

If you fill a bucket with one hosepipe, would it be faster if you use 2 hosepipes? Of course it would be.

It comes down to your usage requirements.

- How many people are using the line?
- What are those people using the internet for?

If you are like me most of my heavy downloads are scheduled at night or while I am at work. Therefore needing double the speed never effects me. I am also the only internet user for my line therefore it would never be overburdened for when I am using the internet for latency sensitive applications. e.g online trading or gaming.

Therefore if you are finding the 1Mbps service is not pleasing you in some way shape or form and you have the extra budget available for 2Mbps then do the upgrade. If you are not experiencing any need to upgrade then I say stick with the 1Mbps service.

Hi there

It is only me using it. The downloading is okay. I download now and then from torrents. My downloading is about 80-100kb/ps on torrents. I was just curious to find out that if I download, will that speed pick up (knowing it is depending on seeders etc.....)if I upgrade to 2 meg line. When I download my Nvidia drivers, and sound etc....I use download accelerator, and get between 90 and 110kb/ps. Will that speed also pick up. I need to know if the speed will run at say 200/300kb/ps????
Thanx for reply

Chris

It used to run at a constant 212 KB/s until about October. Now it seems to be stuck between 166 and 173 KB/s

They will indeed.

1Mbps ADSL line has an approximate maximum throughput of 116kb per second.
2Mbps in turn as a maximum of 232kb per second.

The above speeds are the maximums you should expect taking into account technicalities such as IP overhead etc. You are also correct in terms of understanding that there are many external factors that can slow down your downloads and prevent you from getting your maximum speeds all the time. Seeders for torrents, server load for HTTP downloads, local exchange congestion etc.

Hi Lionking

Are you looking to upgrade your package? If yes, I can have our sales team contact you in order to get the ball rolling.

Hi Lionking..Well i was on the 4mb and downgraded to the 2mb...and to be honest there is not much difference ..yes downloading on the 4mb was good..

But when it comes down to gaming and browsing ...there is no difference !!in my opinion that is.. and it's cheaper :)

my latency on Europe servers are between 183-195 ..on the 4mb it was exactly the same! oky but then again speed doesnt really bug around with latency..

Torrent downloads are between 170-220kbps...Nvidia drivers are around the 150-180kbps mark..
