Hey there,

I have a question maybe someone can help with.

We have an ADSL account with MWEB, and normally have no issues. However, when we do get capped, we buy a booster pack, which seems fine, except that it is nowhere near the speed it usually is. As soon as the next month starts, then the speed is back to normal.

Anyone else have the same problem? Any suggestions by anyone?

M-Web ADSL as an ISP is a pathetic choice on your part. Sorry, but yeah :) You will find most people here dont like M-Web as they are insanely overpriced.

Welcome to the forums SANethost, hope you enjoy it here and find many answers and great assistance.
M-Web simply resell the SAIX product, the network also is almost always slower at the end of the month versus the start of the month.

That goes for any ISP using the SAIX network.

Get a decent ISP - like Webafrica or Openweb. Mweb's boosterk@k is not worth anyone's money...

A friend of mine has an Mweb dial up account. When he moved to DSL he asked me about service providers. I explained to him about all the different ISP's and then recommended Axxess for R59 a gig or Webafrica for R70 a gig (unused is carried over to the next month).

Last week I asked him which one he chose. He said he was staying with Mweb for R149.00 cause he can keep his email address the same.

So I said, "Geez, you must really like your email address to want to pay R90 a month more than you could be paying."

He looked at me with a blank expression, speechless!

OK OK OK OK, I get it, MWEB sux!

So now, I think ill check out that hellkom site for providers. Any other suggestions or personal reccomendations?

Does anyone know if its possible to move from mweb and just pay to keep an email account active with them? Had the same account for many years, and it could cause problems when I move.

Thanks for the advice so far

I guess you like my buddy who loves his mweb email address so much he is willing to pay for it. Just break free! Make the move! Loose the chains!

My suggestion is:
1. Get a gmail account. It is free, and has pop3 settings so you can download from your email program.
2. Alternatively, if it is a business related email, get professional and buy a domain name address. It will cost you R50.00 a year for the domain name registration and R19.00 a month for email hosting with a hosting ISP like Hetzner. The benefits of this that you will not appear cheap to your customers and no matter which ISP you chop and change to, you keep the same email address cause you own it! There is nothing more unappealing about a small business that has an ISP email address.

Yes it is difficult to change email addresses but is the hassle of setting up a personalised domain name email address really so bad that you are willing to pay over a thousand rand a year to keep your old one.

Make the change, but allow an overlapping period of about 3 months. Stick an automated reply on the old address telling your email senders that the address is no longer valid and they must please use the new one. Then once a week or so, go check your email box for those other automated emails you receive, like news alerts etc., and go to their homepage and change your email addy.
