How can you call it uncapped if there's a base cap?
There is NO base cap. This applies only to our CAPPED products.
Uncapped = uncapped, no less than that.
Is this a shaped (throttled) service?
Shaping means that the network is monitored and managed to ensure that those using the more commonly essential things, like email and web browsing, have priority over those using P2P services such as Bittorrent. This is typically done during peak hours and not when things are quieter.
Is Free The Web just a marketing gimmick?
We feel strongly that the Free The Web SA page has entertained and engaged the thousands of fans over the past 3 weeks. We also believe that enough was done to ensure that fans were not being misled. We think that the situation regarding access to the wonderful web in SA is behind international standards. Someone had to take the first step into giving customers a better deal, and we believe that as MWEB, one of the oldest and largest ISPs in the country it was our duty to do so. Sure the rest will follow, but competition is what will give customers better deals.
How fast are these services?
How fast do you want your access to be? Your line speed determines how fast you are able to transfer data. (I.e. how fast Web pages load or how fast files are downloaded). We have a range of line speed options from 384 Kbps up to 4 Mbps download. Your line speed controls how quickly data gets to your computer over the internet.
Fast (384Kbps): A good budget option for 1 or 2 users doing mostly web browsing and emailing.
Faster (512Kbps): Better suited for a family or small office better suited for larger file downloads as well as radio streaming and video calling.
Fastest (4096Kbps): This is the best option for someone who prefers high speed downloads and enjoys gaming and streaming.
What exactly will this cost me?
For data only you will pay R219; the all inclusive package is R349 – this includes your line rental. This is a fixed monthly amount, in other words NO extra or hidden costs.
Do I need a landline?
Yes, you will need an existing post paid telephone line to use this service.
Will I be tied into a long term contract?
No. For personal packages contract works on a month to month basis which means you won’t be tied for the long term. You can opt out any time you like.
The terms and conditions seem strict. What's the catch?
No catch! But we are looking at our terms and conditions in case there are any misunderstandings.
What about Skype?
Use your uncapped ADSL account to do anything you want. Business accounts are unshaped. Services such as Skype might experience a small lag in peak periods on shaped accounts.
