Mweb and btaccel

its free ... i refuse to pay for " " content. :) bad enough mweb profits from crime... do you know if mweb would do something like block btaccel. could they?

I dont see how as it is HTTP right? Therefore your would be blocked from browsing too? Although they could limit the actual page but not by speed as far as I know. They could just block the page.
Maye they can limit downloads off a particular site?

I dont mean block from any technical point, but contractually. can they as part of their terms and conditions block access to certain sites other than implementing their o so broad definition of shaping?

When you say blocked, do you mean the site does not respond at all, or do you mean it is shaped to death?

The reason I'm asking, is I can't access newscientist.com from MWeb, and it seems to be a DNS issue.

Hi,

Using MWEB, I can access the site just fine.

However, the problem comes in where one needs to download a torrent which was selected for download over http. Then I get the all too famous "page cannot be displayed" error.

I've even tried it using telskum, ahem, i mean telkom, but still the errors persist.

To my understanding, this is neither an ISP issue but rather an issue which btaccel must deal with. I've tried many torrents but no luck. I've even contacted them but, you've guessed it, no luck either.

You might be better off using furk.net as torrents seem to download rather fast however, you'd be limited to 200mb for storage as a default user.

Regards,

It's down for me right now. btaccel is unreachable from time to time but it happens very seldom and even then it's only for a few hours at a time. I'd only consider paying for a VPN if btaccel ceases to exist as a free option - it suits my needs perfectly.

This only ever happens to me if I queue up more than 10 files, which only happens when I'm downloading episodes. In my experience, Furk doesn't play nice with download managers and also doesn't support resuming.

Thanks for testing it out, I have since the uncapped revolution canceled all other isp accounts. I was guessing it was btaccel as they are unreliable but free :) Will give the other options a shot.

MWeb only has to add the ip address or or subnet address range to their shaping system, and the service will be shaped, whether it is http or not. I'm sure that is what they do with RS, and I'm sure that is what they have done or will do with other bulk http sites/services being used to bypass their shaping rules.

What a bunch of bloody morons. To the thread starter, you are the biggest idiot alive. Why cant you people just shut the hell up instead of raising threads like this that are going to attract attention to the site and get the site shaped. I had problems, but I kept my mouth shut cos I knew what discussing it would mean. I guess its only a matter of time now. Better start looking for a paid option

Don't be so small minded, if you had even bothered to see how well publicized it is in any case, how did you hear? Helping out my fellow man.

Stop trolling my thread.
