Its the weirdest thing ever.
I can't receive incoming TCP connections on my mweb account. Weird weird weird.
Making a PPPoE connection from my PC, router in bridge mode.
If I connect to other ISPs (like axxess, webafrica etc) it works perfectly.

I called them to ask them whats going on. They said they have no policy of blocking connections. Only shaping.
If I make an outgoing connection, it works perfectly, sending/receiving data etc. But incoming connection, not possible.
They said they're gonna reset some authorization thing on my account.
If that doesn't work, they're gonna escalate it.

Anyone had this problem?

I'm on Mweb 384k uncapped. Love the service so far. But they better fix this. Its make or break.

I'll save you your breath if you're gonna suggest one of these things:
"Port forwarding": I am the internet IP, nothing to forward.
"Firewall/Software problem": I've tried turning the firewall off, and its besides the point. With other ISPs its working perfectly.

What's "receive incoming connections"?
Are you hosting a web server or something?
Do you know that firewall settings can be configured per dial-up connection?

Switch off "protected access" in the control panel of your mweb account and try again..

Yip I think this is also the culprit.
Go to 'My Account' -> 'ADSL' then click 'Disable Protected Access'

MWEB Protected Access protects MWEB ADSL Customers from bandwidth theft and account abuse by blocking unsolicited incoming connections to network ports commonly used by hackers.

It does not affect normal incoming and outgoing Internet traffic, so you can surf the Web, check your e-mail and download files without being aware of it.

davemc: yes, web server kind of thing.

Thanks for the update Lope and thanks to all for the assistance

I phoned Mweb again now, to find out what my login email address is.
Long story short, I happened to speak to another tech now, and mentioned the 'protected access'... he had never heard of it either!
BLOCKING CONNECTIONS is kind of something your tech support guys should know about. My 2c
Thanks.

MWEB had implemented this "feature" many years ago, quite odd the call center people still don't know about it.

Cool bananas!
So MWeb still use custom control panels.
I thought they stopped doing that, oh well, live learn, thanks for feeding back Lope.

why is mweb ops still a junior member after 450+ posts?

Probably something to do with his account being created for him. Some other official Reps have something like "Mweb Rep" instead of Junior member etc.. they must've forgot to set his and now he's stuck on Junior Member.
