MWEB Capped Broadband

Hi there.

I was looking around on MWEB's website just now, and found the ADSL Broadband pricing.

I was on 384kb/s uncapped shaped, and my download speed was 40kb/s at the absolute maximum.

Now I downgraded to 2GB capped 384kb/s.. (Still 40kb/s download speed)

I am wanting to pay for 8GB Capped ADSL with a speed of 1024kb/s for R389/month, but I am not too sure on whether download speeds will be 1024kb/s or something under 70kb/s... I am hoping that it could be 150-350kb/s.

Please could somebody tell me what speed the package that I want really is...

1 Mbps will get you 100-105 kB/s.

The maximum speed you will achieve is usually: linespeed / 8 * 90%

So for 384k the max line speed you'll normally see is around 43 kb/s and for 1024kbps line speed it's around 115kb/s at best. Remember torrents are shaped and depending on how many seeds and the time of day you download, you might only see around 80-90kb/s downstream.

Interesting! Would you rather not have 384k uncapped, than 8GB capped?

If you really wanted to you could do alot more than 8GB a month on a 384k uncapped! 8GB would rarely last me a day on the weekend!

If you think about it you actually paying more. Rather get the 384 uncapped it will be cheaper. You could push 60g from a 384 uncapped line 8gb is to small you could finish that in 2 days.

I had 384kb/s, but it is way too slow, and the unshaped option is way too expensive. I can barely have one computer on RuneScape and the other loading pages such as facebook without the one on RuneScape losing connection. I am also tired of not being able to do anything while a torrent downloads. Could somebody also help me with the speeds of Axxess uncapped 384kb/s (unshaped after 5pm and on weekends) when unshaped. Also, is 3gi.co.za reliable? Because they offer 384k unshaped uncapped for R185/month excluding the telkom line, which is a few rands cheaper than other ISP's shaped/semi-shaped offers.
