Im currently using Mwebs 4mb uncapped service the speeds are good nomaly around 400-500kbps download speeds but the problem i am having is that the line drops every 20 min and has to reconnect ,this has been going on for some time now and its very frustrating especially when playing online games (wow) or downloading large files.
i have contacted both Mweb and Telkom multiple times but nothing has been solved so i am now considering changing to a alternative isp.

what isp has the best latency for gaming such as Wow and Cod?
any suggestions appreciated.

Do you have another ISP? Test it on that ISP to see if it actually is Mweb or if it is a telkom problem.

Unshaped accounts are best for on-line games.
If you reported the matter to both MWEB and
Telkom, then MWEB should really either sort
it out or chase Telkom to do it.

Sometimes you have to escalate and escalate
again before anything happens. You may be in
the Telkom blames ISP, ISP blames Telkom trap.

Have you been upgraded to any line speed > 4mbits? It's also very possible that if you have that your SNR margin is too low, causing intermittent disconnects.

Telkom reduced my line down to 3mbit but that did not seem to help...

are you saying it isnt good? or its amazing?

becuase im thinking that thats amazing speeds...

Yea the speed is good but that's not the problem The problem is the constant disconnection of the line that has not been fixed by telkom or Mweb and i dont know what to do as each time i call in to report a problem telkom blames mweb and mweb blames telkom...

Do us a favour and ask Telkom to drop your sync speed.
I had the same issue, they dropped me down to 1024, stable, then up to 2048, then 3096 - stable now at 3200+
I am not able to sync at 4096 without constant errors - this is because of distance to the exchange btw.

Sorry to highjack this thread.

Does anybody elses Mweb account disconnect around 6pm ... Mine like clockwork disconnects around 6pm virtually everyday.. Then my line struggles to stay synced for around 20 min or so.. then after that it again stable as a rock..

Line issue or Mweb issue. I have a 4 Meg line.. but due to distance I am synced at 3 Meg.

Hi fbman,

Has this been investigated already as this could be something happening on the line.

Not that I am aware of...

Jacked again lol
So ive been on mweb for bout 1month and only since i switched i cant play WoW anymore, i dc like 2mins into the game..anyone know what can be the problem?

I don’t think it will be the ISP if you constantly disconnect
It’s not like the old dial up accounts where you were calling the ISP and their modems were answering
You connect to the DSLAM which then routes your traffic through to MWEB
Your actually connection occurs on the DSLAM

It sound like the line is getting a bad sync and it drops the connection
I had the same issue a month or so ago my line was dropping at least every 2 minutes
I had to fight Telkom for 2 weeks to get them to send someone out to fix it
From their side they said it was fine until I told the guy to sit and check it for a while and he then spotted the disconnect

They then first tried to blame my router (luckily I already lent one from a friend and got the same issue)

If you have an all inclusive line then talk to MWEB and tell them you get our line from them so they must get it sorted

If the line is through Telkom then you can ask MWEB to see if they can’t do anything but it is ultimately up to Telkom not MWEB since you aren’t paying MWEB for the line so they have very little pull to get it sorted

Lucky you i have that problem at my house after an year with the techies at my house every day we just gave up and canceled the line, i tested 10 different modems, all the pairs on the cable to the pole outside and more than 1 dslam slot...

the issue was not the line my line was perfect
