Hi Folks;

I've made (another) little questionnaire to gauge the overall feeling of peoples MWEB Uncapped experience and would appreciate it if you could give your responses.

...irony is you're confusing "shaping" with "throtteling"

Everything is legit traffic, since you pay for internet. Some just has a better priority rating aka less slowed down thanks to shaping. Shaping doesnt make certain traffic run at full speed and others at less speed, shaping merely ensures that when things slow down due to high demand, certain traffic slows down less and other traffic slows down more. But stuff is gonna slow down regardless of shaping or not if demand is high.

Throtteling is making specific stuff slow deliberately.

Well done Hambone, great way of getting a realistic view of user's opinions. Good thinking.

Thanks guys, I really didn't want to make it very technical... I really want to stress that. Its simply a way of getting people OPINIONS, how people really feel about the service the're getting. So far, its looking like people are happy, but time will tell. Again, thanks for taking the time to complete it.

Just thought I should correct you on a few things. Throttling is when an ISP or Bandwidth provider slows the actual overall speed of your service, limiting all speeds regardless of protocol. QoS (Quality of service) is still active. Shaping is when an ISP or Bandwidth provider slows down the speed at which a specific protocol funstions. What you are describing is actual QoS where certain protocols are given a higher priority over others without actually limiting any on of the protocol's speeds.

You are not completely incorrect as you can use both QoS and shaping/throttling together.

Now back to my experience. I have been on Mweb for 2 weeks now and so far I am very happy. I am a heavy downloader and I would prefer the service to be unshaped, but im not going to complain since I knew the service was shaped when i signed up.
Their Level 7 packet shaping is quite weak though and as such I have been able to unshape my torrents which is nice. I have done a little over 380Gigs so far, but I don't see myself doing more than that ever again since I am only doing so much for the novelty of it.

HTTP is good almost 24/7 except for the occasional 5min gap of dodge int. My latency is also quite good with most local Multiplayer games sitting at no more that 80 and peaking occasional to around 120/160.

I also don't see why so many people were complaining about the sign-up process. It took me no more than 5min to have the order complete and has my account details within 5 min after.

All in all i am very happy, and will stick with them if the going is this good from now on.

And thank Hambone for the questionnaire. :) Interesting stuff.

20% seem to think Rapidshare speeds are great!!

{something seriously wrong with this result}

Tanya35, it's Mweb they're busy messing with the results! Obviously everyone voting have no idea what they're doing and only your experience is valid.

You do like to complain about Mweb don't you?

I only complain about valid issues that are not being addressed. What's your excuse for complaining?

My only complaint is about people moaning about how unhappy they are but then doing nothing about it but complain. It's one thing to express your experience it's another one to go from thread to thread offering nothing but your dissatisfaction. If you're really so unhappy why do you still use Mweb?

Vonni, I am entitled to my opinion on any matters. Whether you agree or not is your opinion. Argue your case and I'll argue mine. What I won't abide is a complaint about a complaint, which is vexatious in the extreme. For all we know, you have an interest in the company, which may explain your fanboi tendencies. Kindly leave your prejudices at the door or contribute to a different thread.

This questionnaire's outcome will be misleading
You need to create one for each speed, not one for all speeds. People on 384 usually have no problems, but people on 4MB never get close to what they should get. the best dl speed I got with mweb was 100Kbps, 90% of the time 10 - 40Kbps...

I used to think this is the way to do it also but realized you just play the game according to their rules, ie you loose always!!! I did bail when things got ugly with afrihost but this time I'm sticking to my guns. 24hrs now with no response to my ticket other than the ref number mail to me from MWEB. Monday I'll start with hellopeter and I will keep it up till MWEB do something!! I pay for a service which I am not getting at this stage, period!!

Thanks for that Tanya25, you actually spoke some sense for once and didn't just rant. As much as I'll find great joy and fulfillment in live to argue with you we've already ventured to far off-topic. And yes I do have an interest in the company, since I'm a user of their service I am very interested in seeing I get value from it.

Back on topic: My opinion is Mweb offers a good service and I (my opinion) get value from it. It might not always be 100% but for a best effort service it's doing pretty well. With time all these uncapped offerings will finally stabilize as more international connectivity is made available in South Africa. When that they comes we'll see more unshaped uncapped solutions, till then we have a decent service to tide us over and which beats the very recent R30per gig offers we had to use. Agree or disagree, things have gotten better and will continue to.

I fully support you on this RogueRunner, since you're proactively doing something. I really hope they listen to you and give you a proper response, since it's an entirely different matter to ignore a dissatisfied user when they actually direct it to you.

This is true, thanks for pointing it out. I noticed it too. It would skew results because a persons experience of video streaming would not be positive on 384, but 4meg customers would not really complain as much about that since the lowest conditions would still allow a reasonable experience.

I've also noticed the comments at the bottom are also selected and do not contain all contributions. I'm not talking about worthless comments like "Mweb is sh*t", I'm talking about anything deemed as crititical. I wish people would stop trying to manipulate polls.

A dissatisfied user should not be mocked or ignored. It's also fatal customer service to say "go somewhere else". The most successful businesses know this, since it's Marketing 101!

Thanks for your concerns, however the questionnaire was designed to ascertain an overall experience regardless of speed. It is made clear that respondents should only respond according to how they think their connection should be, as a perception... not as a wish list, or a "my video streaming sucks, but thats because its 384, so I'll say poor." I had presumed people would be intuitive enough to respond in that manner, thanks though for raising the concern. I would have thought too Tanya35 that a skewed result to the side of dissatisfaction would appease you? As it would turn out, that isn't as yet statistically relevant.

Furthermore, I stress once again... the questionnaire is about perceptions rather than actual speeds, to gauge whether or not people are, in general happy with their subscribed service - or not.
