Hi all

my friend called me . They have mweb adsl internet . Mweb provides the dsl line and data.

The line has been working well for about three years a disconnect every now and again, but more recently the internet disconnects much more.

We have changed the router from the vkom router that mweb issues to a netgear router but still have the same problem.
The dsl synchronizes but dont connect at times. We have to reboot the router for it to connect.

Any suggestions ?

Get connection stats via the router.

Look for Downstream SNR etc.

Thats what it says, is it good or bad?

Line is very good but it shows up time of 5 hours so what disconnects are you referring to?

Before the 5 hours it disconnected twice on this new router we installed , the netgear router, and on the vkom router mweb gave us it was down for an entire day and a half.

Have you checked that your filters are still ok?

Have you picked up the phone to see if there is any noise?

I have not checked the filters . It should be just over three years old now. Regarding the noise there is some on the phone.

I am currently not there to check now . Will do so when i am at my friend tomorrow.

I just checked the phone, there is a lot of noise on the phone and the internet disconnected again . Lasted about 4 hours before it reconnected.
Log a fault with Telkom or your is if your line is with your isp report it to them.

I just cleaned out the dsl splitter and and reconnected everything. The internet seems to be working fine. Has not disconnected since then.

You can also do a test by plugging the phone in directly to the line with no filter and hear for noise or even the adsl only and check if it works fine like that.

A faulty filter can cause this every time the line rings are is taken of the hook it can disconnect the internet and the router would have to resync for adsl.

Your line stats are pretty good and if 40Mbps VDSL is available I think you would even be able to reach that so I don't think it's a line issue but can't say for sure.
