Have you used the new DSTV/Mweb DSTV on demand website? What do you think?

I like the idea but so far have only managed to download about 5 seconds of One Tree Hill in 15 minutes. For some reason the app they use does not allow the user to pause while the video downloads which means you have to watch the video in fits and starts. Not great.

Edit: the site is ondemand.dstv.com

i cant get mine to work
i link my dstv smartcard number and my mwed dsl account
but wen i try to download it keep saying failed

what can i do to fix this
any help will be apreciated

I also had the download failed thing, fixed it by updating my media player, no idea why it worked like that but it worked on 2 of my pc's. I can pause while buffering, just click on the video.

I've watched a bit of Marley and Me and Fringe. First few times it streamed fine, but other times for some reason it buffered a lot. What annoys me about their player is that the bottom bar doesn't disappear when you maximize the video. Their DSTV On Demand Desktop app, can't seem to stream videos from there, doesn't wanna download. =/

It just doesn't work!

Yes, there is a pause button but it doesn't work at all. I clicked on it a few times but it continued to play. So I left it to stream and watched TV. About halfway into a movie on TV I glanced at the streaming video, it was displaying a credit about 5 minutes into the show. At the end of my movie I looked again and it was still displaying credits. Wow.

Almost as annoying; if I try to move the slider bar to an earlier point in the video it won't move at all. The thing is completley unresponsive.

So I tried this morning to do a direct download instead on my PC. I clicked on the link to install "DStv ON DEMAND Desktop." It does nothing. I opened the link in a new tab and got a CNet page saying that the page I requested was not found. Wow.

It really, really annoys me when companies release services that they have clearly not finished developing. If MWeb and DSTV release this sort of thing it should just WORK! Mweb should open up the bandwidth for it. Their website should work. Their app should work.

The DSTV On Demand website states that they recommend a 512Kbs line. I have a 1024 Mbs line and d I regularly get download speeds of about 800-900 Kbs. I can stream YouTube just fine, so why can't I stream this?

And another thing, they say on their website that you just need Windows Media Player on your PC to download, then when you get their all of a sudden you have to install their destop app. Why can't they have the correct information?

Hmm dstv seems to be getting a little desperate. ;)

I don't see Neotel being able to support the type of bandwidth requirements if MWeb are not managing.

and why only allow Premium subscribers who have MWeb !!! this is bloody ridiculous !! Let's see them explain why DSTV (a Naspers company) only has certified or approved Mweb connections (also a Naspers company????)
What the hell ?? This is damn unfair... Why can I not connect with my own ADSL account??? Why must I move to Mweb and give up my current email etc..... and I'll be damned if they expect me to pay another R200 on top of my already over priced DSTV premium subscription !!!!
Bloody Agents !!!
;)
