Hi

I was just wondering what is going to happen should somebody use the public portion of the FON router to illegally access a server (for example City of Johannesburg).

With who will the buck stop? Myself, for having the router on my premises and phone line, or the person who accessed the server illegally?

Thanks

Worried user.

I am also concerned about this.

I also think that Mweb should disclose the revenue it earns from the users connecting to the public portion of individual FON router. It would be interesting to see on my monthly invoice that they billed me for my ADSL data and in return they earned xxx amount from my FON router. I think users connecting to my FON router get 30 minutes free but what about other people buying access to internet?

Hi Anonymous

It is not possible for someone to access the FON connection anonymously. It will be possible to trace illegal activity back to the user.

Hi jc2k-ak

FON is a free connection. Yes Free connection, even if the price of petrol goes up. FON is free.

It's about sharing. If you make FON available to others and you connect to others FON it's UBUNTU ;-)

Of course its free - MWEB sacked their users who used the internet as it should be, kept the low data users and trained them with throttling to conserve capacity, and then (over)charged them for a CAPPED - UNCAPPED account. But hey - FON is free and MWEB is a charity .......

If you believe that FON is free, then you may as well believe that Nkandla was paid for by JZ, and that the Father Christmas put that prezzie under the fake fir tree.
