MWEB International down again ?

I had no international Internet access on Mweb uncapped 384kbps until I changed my username from [email protected] to [email protected].

Now I have a new problem though: I can't connect to the local PvPGN (Battle.net emulator) server, which runs on TCP port 6112 and is hosted at IS. What I don't understand is that its local AND it should not be considered as P2P since its not hosted on someone's ADSL :(

Doing that puts you back onto the SAIX IP range, with all its pros and cons (connectivity, port blocking, etc).

What do you base this comment on?

just from when i had to setup my adsl thru mweb.the person said you have to enter these settings to be on uncapped
so im just saying be careful with other settings.you might be charged for the data? im not 100% sure.im jus saying be careful?

Dear MWEB Customer

We would like to give you an update with regard to the recent failure on our international bandwidth links. As of 10:00am this morning:

* there is no confirmed date or time yet from Seacom to repair the failure
* we have access to some capacity on the SAT3 cable, which we are using primarily to route e-mail traffic

* we have been able to access some surplus capacity on the TENET network. This service has proven to be extremely unpredictable due to the fact that it too is running on the damaged Seacom cable, and it is unlikely that we will make any further use of it

* we have finally secured access to an alternative international cable. While this does not meet our full demand it is sufficient to cater for normal browsing to international sites including G-Mail, Google, Yahoo etc. Peer-2-Peer traffic remains heavily shaped for now.

* about 30% of our ADSL customers are connecting via the SAIX Wholesale network. They have full internet access. Unfortunately Telkom will not allow us to move more customers onto this network because of their commitments to FIFA for the duration of the Soccer World Cup.

* access to local sites, internet banking and e-mail is working as per normal, as has been the case since the start of the failure on our international links

We will continue to source the remaining capacity needed to meet our full requirements and this will remain our most immediate and urgent priority.

For the most up-to-date information regarding the status of our international bandwidth please click on the International Bandwidth Update block on the MWEB Home Page (www.mweb.co.za) or visit our Free The Web site on Facebook.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

Highly unlikely that they can charge you, since you have a fixed monthly contract.

IMO the worst that can happen is that SAIX boot off all MWeb users (already happened on Tuesday at 2pm).

I just got an e-mail from MWeb, sayring that 30% of their users are on SAIX, but they can't put any more on.

Use the SEACOM alternative bandwidth via India, if you can't get any connectivity.

Edit: Was drafting reply, didn't see e-mail quoted above...

Thats the first time someone (any of the ISP's ) actually mentioned FIFA.

All Seacom bandwidth goes via India... They haven't completed the section of the cable that takes it directly into Europe yet.

be carefull when you change these settings you could start getting charged for your internet access.instead of it being uncapped

This is totally untrue, no-one will be charged more for the use of this bandwidth. But the danger of abusing this bandwidth would be all Mweb client's being booted from their bandwidth because it would have a negative affect on their network

Thanks a lot for that information.

On what basis do/did MWEB pick the 30% they put on SAIX/SAT3?

now I hear from technical that it's going to be down for another week

then I phoned accounts for a partial refund and get quoted clause 8 of their T&C

absolutely crazy - it seems there is no decent ISP out there after the fiasco with afrihost, now this BULL with mweb and seacom outages and no partial refund - bloody corporate greed - they charge us upfront for bandwidth and no refund if we don't get the service we have paid for
