Hi,

While I am in competition to most of these big players in the market I would like to contratulate them of comming forward and fighting as one body against Telkom !

I would hold off on the congratulations - don't for one moment believe that the common approach was motivated by similar interests. The only real representation for the consumer was that of RPM on behalf of this forum, other than some of the individual representations made. The rest are motivated by issues of profit/market share and nothing else, despite their noble protestations...
 
Not quite .

I believe MWeb and IS & other ISPs will pass their cost savings (if obtained) to consumers.

It is an excellent alliance. Great team work .

Yep, it's a given that IS, M-Web etc. would not be there if there were no financial benefit. I don't have a problem with this as their presence adds considerable weight to the proceedings. Ultimately the savings of lower bandwidth costs will be passed onto the consumer as (unlike our telecoms situation) there is competition in the ISP sector.

And therein lies the difficulty. As consumers of a service currently subject to price-fixing, there is no guarantee that removal of the Telkrap factor will automatically result in substantially lowered prices - this can only be assured through competitive offerings, not on the largesse of the providers. The inherent 'push-pull' of supply/demand will determine final pricing to the consumer. Also, methinx any windfall generated by removal of the Telkrap factor will potentially first be utilised by providers to improve their coverage/distribution, given current relaxations and the future impact of the Convergence Bill. Sure, something will be passed on to the consumer, but I wouldn't raise my expectations too high...
