MWeb ISP Cancellation

I am currently with MWeb. I got sent the FON router a few weeks back, still waiting for the extender, but it's still sitting in the box unused.

I am looking to move ISPs. My line is with Telkom.

My questions are:

* What is the notice period required by MWeb to cancel?
* How is cancellation done? Phone? Email? Antiquated faxing of a form to MWeb (sadly I expect the latter)?
* They will no doubt want the FON router back, how is this done? Can I drop it off at the nearest MWeb shop?

Thanks

Hi Dubes

Sorry to hear you want to cancel the service with us. Is there anything we can do to retain you?

To answer your questions:

1. We require a calendar months notice period as per our T&C's
2. You can send a mail to us letting us know
3. You can return the router to the nearest MWEB store.

Thank you, MWEbGuy. Sadly, unlike others my concerns with MWeb do not relate to service and this has never been an issue for me. It relates to where I perceive the best value for money.

I am currently using your 1Mbps service even though my line has been upgraded by Telkom to 2Mbps. The reason for staying on 1Mbps is because it is a premium offering and I have not had the shaping/throttling issues others complain of.

The problem is that I have started feeling the need for that extra speed that I am already "paying for" with my ADSL line. A possibility is to move to your 2Mbps "standard" offering but this has rather stringent throttling policies when compared to some of your competitors (I sent you my comparative spreadsheet previously) and it by no means the most cost effective. It also means my throttle "cap", with a faster line speed, will go from around 100GB to 70GB. Now, I rarely reach 100GB, done it once in the last 12 months, but reaching 70GB is a distinct possibility. If it was 100GB I'd consider upgrading and staying.

However, in saying that, I am getting annoyed with the constant cloud of throttling with most ISPs so I am looking to try some capped offerings for now. Sadly you don't come close in terms of price in this regard. Look at these prices:

MWeb 50GB R449
Afrihost 50GB R199
Axxess 50GB R189
WebAfrica 60GB R199
@lantic 50GB R170
OpenWeb 50GB R199

Who knows I may end up back on uncapped but for now, sadly, I need to try capped to get away from these ridiculous ISP policies :)

The Standard 2Mbit Uncapped is R199 and has a throttle limit of approximately 70GB.

Actually, you know what, maybe I should reconsider...

Tell me, MWebGuy, if I move to the 2Mbps standard account from the 1Mbps premium account:

* will I only experience a deterioration in ALL services once I reach that magical 70GB threshold in a 30 day rolling period?
* does the threshold include upload, download or total data usage? I have heard conflicting views on this.

Out of interest, my account currently shows:

Connection status: Unthrottled
Your total usage for the past 30 days: 60.19 GB

The Standard 2Mbit Uncapped is R199 and has a throttle limit of approximately 70GB.

Yip, my edit mentioned this. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken I read you mentioning moving and then moving back because of Twitch access? Was your original ISP that you moved back to Mweb?

The threshold includes download only, another +1 over capped.

Confirmed? My concern is my current account shows "total usage for past 30 days".

Please see my edit above querying your move. Thanks.

Download only.

Yes, MWEB. Should have just stayed with them, and upgraded to 2Mbit. But at the time, thresholds were not known. If only I'd known I could do 130GB+ on 2Mbit (my average for the past 5 months has been about 110 - 130GB).

I presume you are referring to the "premium" accounts? I have the "soft cap" on those as 200GB, but this was based on speculation on here. The "standard" it is 70GB, as you mentioned.

@Mwebguy, another question to add to the ones in post #5.

If I upgrade my service now will I experience the 2Mbps service this month already or will I only get upgraded next month? And can this be done online via my "client zone"? It does offer an option to upgrade there.

If you do an immediate upgrade, you can experience the speeds right away.(depending on your line speed)

I will continue to provide you feedback via private messaging.

Point 3 .......

Or sell it on Gumtree ... like these dudes

Oh wait, you didnt get the extender ... never mind, they are available on Gumtree.

Point 4. PUT A STOP ORDER ON THE ACCOUNT - MWEB WILL take another month and blame ''advanced billing'' (for retards).

Thank you, MWEBGuy, for your assistance in DMs. I'll be staying with MWEB and trying their 2Mbps offering.
