Since June this year I moved to Mweb from WebAfrica, hoping for better service and speeds. I applied and received the 2mbs +line option, at a cost of R339pm. Throughout this time, I have suffered very slow speeds at all times, sometimes as slow as 0.3mbs download speed. I mistakenly blamed Telkom for this, as they offered nearly zero support and I relied on Mweb to handle the technical aspects of these complaints.
Much to my surprise I recently found out from a Telkom technician that my line at home cannot handle more than 1mb. This is information that Mweb has as well, but never in all this time have they notified me of this (it would explain the 'slow' speed, which, for a 1mb line, is not that bad!) Instead, they have been charging me the full price for a 2mb line which I will never be able to use!
Even though they do not offer a 1mb option, I think it only fair that they should inform clients that the 2mb option as in my case will not work. Instead, they blame Telkom for the speed and take my money happily.
I am consider legal action at this time to claim my money back.

Er, Mweb promised up to 2 Mbps, which is what they've delivered. There is no smaller package, your alternative is to go without internet. Good luck with legal action for them delivering what you paid for :wtf:

It doesnt really matter which ISP you go to if your line cant handle the speeds.
Im not sure blaming mweb for it would be right.
What are the stats on your router for attenuation and SNR?

I think OP is blaming Mweb for not informing them fully of the problems with his line not being able to handle the full 2Mb. Had Mweb told them earlier he would have saved money by maybe downgrading to a 1Mb account with a supporting ISP or something. Legal action, hmm i doubt the case will gain much traction

It's not your ISP, you're probably getting line congestion on the exchange.

Also, never move your line to an ISP, keep it with Telkom. They're way faster your ISP would ever be in determining the issue and fixing it if it's a physical line fault. Plus it keeps you free to move your ADSL data package wherever you want on a whim and not be tied into contracts or lenghty line move procedures

boo hoo?

MWEB still offers 1MB Premium Uncapped @ R199pm

It costs the same as the 2MB standard the OP is on, but he will definitely be better off on the 1MB to avoid their nasty throttling policy.

Accounts, yes. Lines, no. You can get 2 Mbps standard uncapped for R339 per month including line, or 1 Mbps premium uncapped for the same R339 per month excluding line. Mweb doesn't offer packages including a 1 Mbps line which would be any cheaper than what the OP is paying already, therefore Mweb has put him on the correct package.

Legal action? lol really?

And you moved to Mweb? did you not even research them before hand?
So much fail.
