Mweb new uncapped is rubbish!!!!

I complained to Mweb that my 4 meg uncapped service was R270 more than their current offering.
They then suggest they change my account to their new uncapped product.

This is not uncapped at all. Since Thursday (after their Seacom link failed again!!!!) my access has been throttle to 1kb/s between 09:00 and 21:00.
Today Sunday 17/02/2013 the throttling is so bad I can't even get 1 byte through.
So when you hit 45gb that's it you are for all intensive purposes capped.
This and their excuses about Seacom being down has convinced me their service sucks.

The R539 product was ok but every things else was being reduced and especially when their own marketing pitched the "same" product for R270 less, you can't help but feel hard done by.
Why don't they just be honest and say you are buying 45G!!

I will now move my account to Telkom, who are cheaper and say their product is not throttled.
I wish these ISP would grow up and stop trying to micromanage bandwidth.
 
I completely agree. There was much disappointment when MWeb introduced their 'new' services.

Unfortunately, it does appear that Telkom is actually a good option.

I am planning to get a R599 2MB deal from MWeb in the coming months, but it seems there are other options available.

Can't help you with your issue, as MWeb won't ever see a cent of mine again, but the friendly grammar nazi in me is compelled to inform you that the phrase is 'for all intents and purposes'.

They are not the same product. The new packages were marketed as throttled uncapped with clear details given that there would be throttling based on global usage on each package.

And how can you blame a dual path outage in Egypt on MWeb when they don't own or run the cable systems at all?

Almost had the same run-in with them. Asked the rep why their uncapped prices wasn't lowered yet - and was informed that I can switch over to a throttled account in order to take advantage of lower pricing.

No thanks. I'm satisfied with the connection as it is now, don't want issues galore as I do remote support as well, and cannot afford to have issues with a throttled something.

I have the 4Mb uncapped account with MWEB. I'll pay my R930 'n month and live with it. The speeds are pretty decent.
 
What other ISP's offer a better deal? I'm currently on Mweb's 899 "Premium" uncapped that includes line-rental. I always wonder if I can get better than that? I am quite happy with it, however, I've never used another ISP.

You had an internet connection after they lost international. Sure it was terrible for your illegal downloads, but they had redundancy. If you would like more, feel free to go lay a multi billion rand cable from the EU to here. We will all be grateful.

Good luck with Telkom uncapped, theyre the worst of the lot. I would rather go to IS or MTN or something.

Naah, you paying them to advertise for them. Gmail gives you 10gb free and when you move ISP`s you dont have to continue paying Mweb.

I run an ISP and we give out free mailboxes because we know its free advertising.

Me neither. Anything upwards from 60Gb is decent.

This is the one reason why businesses need uncapped - for emails etc. Without emails they can just as well close down shop.
 
I'm on the 1mb uncapped "Premium" account....lol

No difference really from their older account. Seems like the conning everybody with that premium label.

Listen ghoti, 1kb/s is not having Internet and don't presume what I do to be illegal. Who made you internet cop anyway?

On the previous account, I would push 140-160GB a month no problem and had they told me their new product was actually a 45GB packages, I would not have changed.
I have now moved to Telkom and am getting better throughput than I have seen in years.

I have mates in UK and OZ and basically they don't even discuss bandwidth - their ISP's have grown up.
You may say bandwidth is expensive in Africa buy how so more than Australia?

Anyway the whole point of getting uncapped was that I did not want to micro manage my family and play cop.
I wanted my kids to be ables to do as they wanted and my business not to care.
Mweb does not fit the bill.
I will let you know how Telkom go.
