Guys,

All of a sudden MWEB's News server requires a username and password? Anybody know anything?

P.S. I don't even like MWEB - unfortunately my situation is forcing me to use MWEB?

Hi 6Spiderman

The news server was terminated on 24 October and communication was sent out to those who would have been affected by it before then.

Due to low uptake a decision had to be made but not just leave you in the cold we put together the following:

We have negotiated exclusive deals with Giganews for MWEB customers who wish to continue making use of the Usenet service. Exclusive to MWEB customers

1. A free 14 day trial
2. Receive 60% discount on the first 2 months of service on the Diamond Plan and 10% discount for the remainder of the subscription.
3. Receive 60% discount on all other Giganews plans for the first month and 10% discount for the remainder of the subscription

Visit http://www.giganews.com/mweb/?a=mweb to sign up.

I guess giganews must be part of Naspers. I am not going to pay extra for News servers, well not at the moment as long as I can get it free, cheapskate I know.

By paying for giganews I might as well get DSTV which is Naspers as well. No thank you!

XSusenet is free if you signup but is limited to 10 days and 1Mbps.

I cancelled my mweb account after i received the email. Signed up with afrihost and I'm flying.

Sad to have left mweb because i didn't have any issues with them, even after the throttling debacle, but the decommissioning of the news server was the last straw.

I would really like to know how many people used the news server and also how many people cancelled now because of it closing.

Well I have been with MWEB since dial up days, never even bothered with the news servers. I have considered moving ISP's, but for me it's rather better the devil you know. If you follow the ISP threads on MyBB, ALL ISP's have issues, every single one.
