Hi

Just wanted to check if anybody here also has issues with 011 numbers ported from Telkom to MWEB that is not working any more? My clients had their numbers ported, no after a month, nobody on the telkom network can reach these numbers anymore. Only cellphones and other voip phones can reach these numbers. 2 of my clients had vertually zero sales the past 48 hours and the problem is still not sorted yet. MWEB's response, we are awaiting telkom's response... for 2 days now. Surely a company like MWEB should have connections in Telkom to quickly resolve issues like this?

Can you guys suggest another carrier that has the service and industry relationships to be a proper VoIP carrier?

Last I heard there was a routing problem to some 011 numbers including numbers on the Telkom network.

I myself can't call a few of my suppliers in JHB, here from PMB off a Telkom Line to a 011 Telkom number.

Seems someone broke something. I don't think this is a Mweb problem....

The only company that does this properly is Neotel. They have hundreds of thousands of ported numbers.

Once again someone played with the routing table hopefully it will get fixed soon. I am sure it's a simple process to actually resolve and not complicated at all.

Everyone has problems with routing time to time happens once in a blue moon. I remember contacting a buddy only to be diverted to someone else for the past 2 hours or so.

Hi Vitchie,

BitCo is a Tier 1 Carrier and we are active on the Geographic Number Portability database.

We have well over 1000 numbers ported to our network from all kinds of customers including large corporate customers.

We have no issues with GNP and we have full redundancy between our national points of presence.

BitCo does not charge any fee for the Number portability so you are welcome to port numbers to our network free of charge.

if you are interested to see which provider your number has been ported to you can view this on the following web page -

https://www.porting.co.za/PublicWebsite/

you welcome to PM us directly or contact [email protected]

Regards,

I assure you no one has ported hundreds of thousands of numbers yet, its growing rapidly though :-)

Wrong! Given that at the end of Aug 2013 there were 1,744,708 ported mobile numbers, it is almost certain that most of the mobile networks have ported "hundreds of thousands of numbers."

As of the same date, 314,424 geographic numbers has been ported.

Neotel have most certainly NOT ported "hundreds of thousands" of numbers, however, when I last did an analysis (which, admittedly, was 21 December 2012), Neotel had ported over 150,000 numbers. Neotel does NOT, however, do the most port transactions of the geographic providers. Their volumes of ported numbers are distorted by the fact that they have pre-CRDB legacy ports as well as individual port transactions of number blocks including 4x 10,000 number blocks and 70x 1,000 number blocks. i.e. 110,000 of those numbers were just 74 actual ports.

I hope that what this will demonstrate is that the sheer volume of numbers ported to a network is a distorted view of their porting activity.

The fact of the matter is that, when it comes to porting geographic numbers, Neotel are not even close to pole position in terms of the number of CUSTOMERS ported onto their network. The fact that four of their customers account for 40,000 numbers should highlight the difference between numbers ported and customers ported.

But getting back to the original issue, there are many providers who are porting many geographic numbers on a daily basis and getting it right.

SwitchTel - Ports work
MWeb - Port process fail

Yes I'm biased I've ported my numbers to Switchtel, and also tried porting to Mweb. Let's just say is the Mweb port process left a very bitter taste in my mouth, rather go with Switchtel.

Interestingly enough I am experiencing the same issues now. I ported numbers from Neotel to African Axess and now some customers can't call in - mostly only Telkom clients. SOME Telkom customers can phone in though. Our provider and ourselves did traces and found that Telkom was hanging up the call after 5 seconds - on some calls.

So now they are moving the ported telephone number to a different Telkom POIL where all the other numbers are successfully terminating. So let's see!

Hi SuperSpeed,

Do you know who African Axess is porting your number to?

I don't think they can port directly as they are not registered on the GNP database.

Try checking your number here and contact the carrier who the number has been ported too so they can log a call with the problematic providers - https://www.porting.co.za/PublicWebsite/

Let us know if we can help in anyway as we port numbers to our network frequently and we have an interconnect manager who is very familiar with the fault reporting process

Regards,

BitCo

Hi everybody ,

I have been having serious issues with the ported numbers in 016 area. It was round about beginning middle September when this started happening. Up until then we had no problems whatsoever. This is seriously affecting my clients and putting doubt in their minds and we run a small business which could impact on us heavily. Switchtel are investigating the issue and have my full confidence in them but this has been very stressful. My suggestion to anyone is always set your VoIP number as the caller ID / remove the ported numbers off the clients website / mail your clients your new number etc etc just so that over time one gets less calls into your system via the ported numbers.

Anyone else in the 016 area having similar problems with ported numbers?
