MWEB Protected Access protects MWEB ADSL Customers from bandwidth theft and account abuse by blocking unsolicited incoming connections to network ports commonly used by hackers. It does not affect normal incoming and outgoing Internet traffic, so you can surf the Web, check your e-mail and download files without being aware of it. It does not require you to download or install anything as it is set up on your local exchange. Like Virus and Junk Mail filtering, MWEB Protected Access is enabled by default for all new customers. If you are an existing customer, we highly recommend you enable it. If however you are a gamer or need the ports allowed for any reason, you need to disable it by going to http://myadsl.mweb.co.za

It basically blocks connections to port 80 ect on the IP you are assigned when you connect via PPPoE.

This is the porn filter isn't it?!
No, I think its code for NAT/blocking incoming connections. Sort like VC & MTN are doing.

Solid move by Mweb...as long as its very clear on what it does & how to turn it off...else its going to frustrate a lot of people.

The bandwidth theft spin is somewhat dodge though.

MWEB my internet is running very slowly at the moment with some pages sometimes not loading... any idea why as when I first got it it was wonderfully fast?

Protected Access on MWeb ADSL is very old news IMO. It's been enabled as long as I can recall.

Why post today?

Posted today because we have received many requests to unblock ports because subscribers were not aware of Protected Access being enabled.

You need to allow the popup and cookies or else you can send me you ADSL username and I will change it for you.

Then why doesn't it work?

What you are receiving is a fraction of what you would have received had the filter been disabled. Spam is a moving target, we plug one hole they find another.
