Mweb rigs the speed test

So mybroadband must spend lots of money for something that has dubious value at best, so that we can all see when our international is a bit wonky (even though Seacom have announced they have an issue and are working on it)?

I fail to see the logic in this tbh.

Oh and DrJoinZoidberg won't argue with me, he was poking fun at you.

BTW, Speedtest systems will more than likely have a very distinct traffic footprint, so the ISPs will very quickly be able to pick them up with the DPI equipment etc...

I wonder if Speedtest.net goes to any lengths to randomise IPs and routings so that ISPs can't rig the results?

How do you know that? Do you work for mweb? I have no issue if it is found that they prioritize speedtest sites but then provide some evidence.

My speed tests with my line are normally pretty much spot on with regard to multi-threaded http traffic.

Because its been pretty much alluded to very often by most of the larger ISPs.

TBH I doubt it.. it would cost significantly more for them to do it.

But something tells me the IP is not what gets marked as "priority traffic", rather the type of traffic and somehow I think SpeedTest stuff has a very distinct footprint.

Fixed it for you.
It has no value right now since it's rigged whereas a working speedtest would indeed contain very useful data. It's not to test if you internet is currently down. But I wont elaborate, I'm already on a fourth sentence and nearing your input limit.

No, you don't seem to get this concept.

The cost to implement what you are talking about would not have the required returns to make it viable. The data you are looking to get your hands on is valuable yes, but its not valuable enough to justify the costs needed to implement the systems to capture it. Plus their is no guarantee that the systems will reliably be able to beat the prioritisation systems for any period of time because those systems will quickly detect the telltale signs of SpeedTest type traffic and prioritise it.

If you are going to try and insult me, at least try and do it on a topic that you have a clue about, because this is one that you do not seem to even begin to grasp properly.

Well I did a speedtest to a server in the USA and got 0.36Mbps on a 4 meg line. Still faster than I can surf the net but nothing to be proud of.

With MWEB I have yet to get under 4MB on the speed test, even when I can't open international pages at all.
