Hi Guys,

Knowing full well that we are still in the middle of this whole seacom debacle. I was wondering if any of you guys are experiencing slower that usual p2p downloads? This is my first month with mweb so I have no reference point...

I'm on the mweb Uncapped 384 Unshaped package and I'm not doing nearly as much as I did earlier in the month.

July 02: 4838.3
July 03: 4701.3
July 04: 5197.9

Now I'm lucky if I do 2500gb in a day. I dont mind that I cant do as much at the moment, I just hope that I'm being throttled due to this seacom thing and not something else.

Mweb is shaping uncapped accounts from certain ports, ie. Torrents. There are ways to bypass it, if you look around on the forums, it's right under our nose. ;)

duh! :D

Surprisingly last month I did 350GB on my line (not me personally, long story :-P ) and so far this month I'm sitting on 35GB :D

BUT

When I downloaded a 4GB torrent (IL2 mods for the saysayers) it was flying!!! I was fully expecting heavy throttling due to the seacom outage.

Well 2.5gb a day on a 384 line is half decent dude.

It would be half decent if I was using a shaped package which costs far less. If its just due to Seacom, then I'm ok with it, I guess. Also 2.5gb is incoming and outgoing traffic.

Out of interest, are news server downloads also shaped for cached files?

Well.. Assuming you torrent 24/7.. 40kb/s * 60seconds * 60 minutes *24 hours gives you ~3.5GB's assuming that the seeders are also uploading at max speed. ( and not counting for upload speed )

So you appear to be getting a pretty solid link.

Perhaps if you told us exactly what you are torrenting, we can try and replicate this and see if it's your link that is limited, or the upload bandwidth of the seeds?

I mostly torrent free Christian videos...

I recently downgraded from a 512 to a 384 line. Even though I was using a 384 package from mweb, I have a feeling that the faster line made a significant impact on my download speeds (well I guess its obvious). This sucks.

Torrents last night failed to complete. Speeds were quite shocking!

My downloads last night also failed to complete, the rerouting bandwidth mweb are using seems to be a lot slower than Seacom.

I was only 300 Meg short... from a 3.5 gig queue.

Ive managed to do only 769.9 in total today so far which is quite shocking. Usually by 9am I've done over a gig.

On 384 running full speed, you will only be able to download 4.1472GB / day. Anything more and it aint a 384 line
