Wmeb now suggests that my router might be the problem. huh?
My router has fewer dropped connections than the billion!

So I was asked to take my router to the mweb store for testing. Guess what, it's operating perfectly!

Now what!? I might be wrong, but me thinks my side of the equation has been proved to be OK!

Can I make a suggestion?

Do you have a POTS filter on your ADSL line? If so, remove it (leave the phone unplugged as well) and plug the router straight into the wall, see if things improve.

I had sudden line drop issues, turned out the filter had gone faulty...

We have explored removing the pots filter aswell, and I do not have a telephone connected to the line either. Only the router.

OK, so today the Telkom Tech arrived at my home did some checks and says to the wife that he's upgraded my connection. :wtf:

Then a few hours later I receive a mail from MWeb stating:
Dear MWEB Member

Your ADSL DN Secure settings have successfully been configured by our support team. If you need to make additional configuration changes, please navigate to My Account and logon with your current credentials.

If you need to know more about this feature, please visit our help site or contact us on details included below.

Kind regards

Got home, checked the internet connection and...
Upstream connection: 507 kbps
Downstream connection: 588 kbps

No change to disconnections and speed is still shocking...

Hi Blender1

I checked on our side and your line is syncing at 1732kbps. I suggest powering the router down for about 5 minutes and check again.

Dude just keep on it.

I had the same problem for about 4-5 months. Finally took one tech guy to check my port at the exchange to find out it was fired and needed to be changed. Now I am syncing fine.

But still does not fix the fact that for 5 months I was called a lier, that it was Mwebs fault and that my 4mbs is only up till 4mb so if I am syncing at 1mb that's fine.

Basically the problem comes in that there are to departments in Telkom working against each other the techies who come and check your line and another that pings your line to check if its working. If they ping and its working they close the case, does not matter if there is still a problem or if the techies have not finished, the case gets closed and the techies have to stop working as it will be against rules and they wont get paid.

I had to report my fault about 10-15 times just so the tech could stay on sight and fix my port.

Well, the Telkom Tech came to my house and apparently connected me to a new DSLAM. :)
The line was syncing at between 700kbps to 1700kbps... not to bad, but still dropped connections!

MWeb and Telkom checked the line, and the telkom tech realized he made a mistake.
Unfortunately he crossed the wires with another line. :wtf:

He phoned me this morning and confirmed that he found the problem and fixed the crossed lines.

This evening however I'm connecting at :
Upstream Speed: 507 kbps
Downstream Speed: 471 kbps

Telkom tech phone me at 18:00 to check on my line, and I gave him the bad news!
Now TELKOM wants to test my router... (Told him I've already had it tested at the MWeb store at Cresta)

He'll check on the line again tomorrow morning...

Thank you Telkom and MWeb!

All systems GO! :D
Turns there was a a connection to the alarm system that was faulty. The alarm system taps of the telephone with a small connector block. :wtf: After the Telkom tech removed the alarm line, everything is now working again.

Thank you Telkom and MWeb ! :)

I had the same problem at my home. 3KM's from the Honeydew exchange. My ADSL was working fine then started to slow down hecticly.

Logged numerous complaints. Too far from exchange. Eventually a Telkom mate changed the cable in my building, from the outside box to my router.

It seems like he peformed a miracle. Synced at 6MB. Telkom is useless at most times. Some of their workers go the extra mile. Some... just some.

I live 52meters away from my exchange and I cant open gmail or fnb sites. And its got nothing to do with Alarm systems. Neither MWEB or Telkom are sympathetic. "Best Offer Service" replies are fun! :(
