Hey there! I have a 20mb Uncapped non-premium account. Lately I've noticed that my pings have skyrocketed in every game I play.

My download speeds and international in general are a joke. I usually used to sync and get download speeds on Speed Test of anywhere between 15-17Mbps. My pings typically are under 45ms. However after 10pm they jump to 800ms+.

Here's my latest Speed Test:

If anyone could recommend a "decent" ISP that's NOT at the mercy of SEACOM, which I can use for primarily for gaming and streaming, I would be most grateful! At the moment I am looking at Afrihost and WebAfrica.

Thanks!

Pick any ISP but just make sure you go for a unshaped capped account ;)

Sorry to hijack your thread but I've been in a similar situation of late with MWEB, using Vox fat pipe and made a massive difference.

What I don't understand is though, I play a lot of games online myself, about 2 months ago I could play anything while someone was browsing or doing stuff on the net. Now recently with MWEB I got insane packet loss/high latency, so I inquired about this cause how can it suddenly be an issue, then I get told by MWEB my line is not strong enough for gaming and browsing simultaneously. Was using 4mb uncapped MWEB non-premium.

Yeah, I've decided that for my current needs, going "Unshaped" with be the most practical choice, mind you MWeb's shaped uncapped was pretty good. Its just frustrating that I seem to be having SO many problems with them.

I'm currently looking at Crystal Web and Afrihost. Both seem rather good. Hope I can get my hands on a trial account.

No apologies necessary! I'm actually having the EXACT same problem. I'm experiencing severe packet loss and the odd thing is that when I switch to my Axxess prepaid account, it goes away. I've tried multiple times to explain this to MWeb's technical support, however they insist that nothing is wrong. I used to have a wonderful ping of 179 in ESO and 220 in APB Reloaded along with mid 200's in Arma, now I'm in the upper 900ms range and am being told its normal and I shouldn't complain.

That Crystal Web Premium Uncapped will give much better performance than that MWEB account. I'd avoid Afrihost.

Good Day Schnitzo, I know that the SEACOM outage is ongoing; however we have added bandwidth via alternate providers to compensate for it.

I checked your account and noted that on the 2nd and 3rd; the connection shows disconnections.

The SNR on the line is around 7.3dB at the moment, however the sync speeds is at 16376kbps.

When you pick up your land line, do you hear a crackling or static noise?

Did the router loose connection by itself or did you reboot the router?

Also, the usage on your account for today; shows a much improved service. Please let me know if this is indeed the case.

I understand and that the SEACOM outage is ongoing, however I'm just not happy with the level of service I've been receiving recently.

Whilst my line may sync at 16376Kbps, I CAN assure you I've not reached those speeds in ages when I do a speed test or even download something.

For this past week router has been repeatedly losing connection. I've not been rebooting it.

Yes, there is a ton of static on the line now. I've replaced everything and now have 4 different routers along with 6 filters. I've even had Telkom change the physical ports and that's done nothing for my speeds nor does it explain the drop in speeds at certain hours or disconnects that happen regularly.

Good Day Schitzo, The SEACOM outage has since been resolved.

On the 5th, when I posted a follow up' you managed to move allot of data.

The usage then dropped off since then.

The line is not with us and it sounds like you have a physical line issue.

If there is audible noise on your land line, I would suggest logging a fault for Audible noise on the telephone.

If that is addressed, it may have a positive impact on your ADSL.
