mweb uncapped -"fair usage"?

I am the other "happy one". I live in Gauteng. As I said , the majority of the complaints seem to be around news servers. I spend the money and subscribe to 1-click services, and like Alestorm, I am getting my 4mbs downloads overnight.

News server, P2P downloads, You tube streaming, HTTP downloads, Gaming and now sometimes even just Browsing. What else is left? This all is not even a patch of what it used to be since the Mweb "improvements"

I have no idea what you people are complaining about so much. Just upgraded from 384 to 1meg this week. Friday I got 90KB/s constant download speed on my torrents. The only problem I had was a shortage of seeders. Do all of you who complain of excessive shaping even check if the torrent has 100% availability.

Dude, there is mostly nothing wrong with the seeders if the other uncapped ISP's have the same torrent coming down at extreme speeds. That is exactly my question, why would you with a 1M account be getting better performance than me with a 4M account. Unfortunately the clever Mweb guys cannot give us an direct answer.

4MB shaped uncapped = 300-400GB per month

Then I would like to know how that is achieved by one person and cannot be achieved with the standard account and features by another like me. The highest I managed without trying hard before this nonsense started was 95GB and that was used against me as a "reasonable" achievement so my problems does not count. The fact that I do not get the same service as before is of no consequence.

My Youtube, http downloads etc are very fast. Obviously your whole connection is screwed somehow, doesn't sound like shaping gone wrong really. Best to just use another ISP if they work flawlessly for you and MWeb gives such problems. What's the use in trying to get this fixed for ages when you can move immediately to a better ISP.

Mweb's shaping has gotten out of hand. I have virtually no bandwidth for anything until 6pm. I feel like im on 384k, when i have 4mb - and shaping should never make so much of a difference. MWeb is begging people to drop them

I am happy, in Gauteng and use NNTP mostly. Last month was actually my best month ever with M-Web.

I'm not such a dl whore :p but I average just over 200GB's a month since the release of mweb uncapped (*4Mb), also on shaped.
The only issue I have is streaming of video content is not always smooth, and this is normal non hd stuff..

i do about 60gb a month, full speed in the night between 1am and 8am while having nice pings between 6am and 9am.you can't download or play much online if it's not between those hours.

I'm also a happy Sandton MWeb customer. Joined them last month and managed over 200GB. Mostly 1-click file-share hosts (premium account on rapidshare, hotfile etc.) and nntp. Speeds do fluctuate, but 14 GB in a 24 hour period is definitely do-able. My newsgroup downloads were hovering at < 10kB/s during the day until I stopped using port 119. My nntp connection is still unencrypted, but now I get excellent speeds.

Ah i was wondering about this lately.. anyways i throttle news stuff to a lower speed during the day

I always thought MWEB shaping caused my problems during the day. Turns out the Telkom exchange was congested and caused all the issues. Since the exchange was upgraded MWEB is running like a dream. Check your exchange! MWEB network must be the best out there

I am pretty sure that most Mweb complaints are exchange congestion complaints in disguise. Late last year my line ran terribly at night and I thought it was Mweb so I switched to WA and still had the same problem from about 6pm.

Telkom upgraded the exchange and I am happily back doing 300-500GB per month on my 4mb account. I am also in Gauteng.

I`ve been using the Uncapped service since March and it`s been pretty good since day 1. Wont ever consider going back to a capped service again.

@Shayd: True in many cases. At the risk of yet another analogy... MWEB is selling a car that has to drive on roads and go through toll gates which are not managed/maintained by them.

I'm in Dbn and I'm really new to mweb 1mbps uncapped shaped, but I've been pulling good amounts of data so far.

I'm not sure if they monitor you over time and change certain peoples shaping accordingly, but if it stays like it is I'll be very happy.

I dont use it for gaming though - which it isn't meant for anyway. I use WA for gaming, and get much better pings with them.

Overall, so far, I'm damn happy with mweb.

I am in JHB, able to pulling 160~200GB pm on mweb 1mb uncapped shaped.

Still happy with MWEB. :)

Yeah, that's the reality of uncapped :) 200GB would cost between R3000 and R20000 on the old capped accounts. There's no way we could have even considered downloading this kind of quantity 18 months ago.
