What do I need to do to get an Mweb Admin to investigate my account. I have done plenty of speed tests and never got higher than 0.51 down and 0.56 up speeds even though I am on a 4mb account ( now 10 ) and have 4mb uncapped subscription.

in the first few months I got great speeds now I battle to even do basic browsing or stream any youtube videos.

please help

I too have problems with downloads. My speeds are extemly low. I'm downloading torrents with a speed of 1kb/s-5kb/s with a 4mb uncapped mweb account (even through nights and weekends). My rapidshare downloads are limited too, with a maximum of 1kb/s, if I can even connect. My donloads were fine when I subscribed to mweb in may (for about 2months), but now they are hrrible. I've contacted mweb twice, and all they say is "we are not shaping, you have full access", they treat me like an idiot. I've tried downloading with an axxess and openweb account, with acceptable download speeds, but mweb is HORRIBLE.

You guys should mention where you're located and of course notify M-Web. No problems here in Menlo Park Pretoria.

here in lynnwood pretoria, i can actually see as they throttle me to around 4.1Mbps... so no complaints here. I would think your problem is probably TELKOM related, and not MWEB related. People tend to blame MWEB because MWEB gives the best service and thence they think that MWEB is responsible for everything. Getting 500k from a 4Meg line sounds pretty TELKOM smelly **** to me. Sometimes Telkom limits 4meg lines to 512k until you complain ("to save bandwidth"). it happened to me... and boy did i have a field day explaining to the head of operations how i was busy wiring up a 4000w generator to the can outside my local exchange. miraculously my "bad copper" started pushing 4 megs. unbelievable.

He just said he tried another ISP
and the problems disappeared.

That's a sure sign of shaping.

I have to say, my 384 account has bee rubbish for weeks now.

When it comes to torrents, that is. Under 3 kb/s during the day and never above 20 at night. What a load, I am pretty unsatisfied to be honest. It used to be so much better.

Hi DrWho, what speed are you actually syncing at. Please also post your SNR and attenuation stats. Thx

Well, I'm stationed right in the middle of Hatfield, Pretoria. So the location shouldn't be an issue. And a few days back our line was upgraded to 10mb, so the line speed shouldn't be a problem

I will post my sync speed and SNR and attenuation stats this evening once I get back from work. What I can tell you is that I have checked and I sync at 10mb levels as of the weekend but that has not changed anything in my life.

I also reside in Morningside Durban ( I am guess in terms of telkom that would be classed as Durban North and that is the region which has been upgraded ). One thing I would like to state for the record is that my problems started 2 months after I started my adsl account. So i had good speeds and then they stopped.

So it seems to be happening to everyone. Also on a 4mb uncapped, with afrihost. first 2 months lightning fast speed, last month and a bit hardly hit 10kbps on downloads... Is mweb a better choice? Do they monitor our history and then throttle us big time? Not sure if I should switch to Mweb now?

When I test with standard accounts the speeds are sky high again. Uncapped??? does not seem that way with the unbearable speed!

Because the ISP's are throttling the uncapped account to 4 Meg... we have to wait for the 10 MEg uncapped prices

Hi Dr Who,

Your SNR ar 11.1 is below the recommended minimum of 12, try ask Telkom to sync you at 8Mbps.

Cheers

Where are you pinging? Also stop your downloads before testing...

thanks will do, but do you think that is my problem?

On a side note with the speeds my 4mb adsl is going at now I am moments away from hearing the all too familair dial up tone.
