So I've been struggling with Xbox Live over the last month with what seems to be really slow access and real laggy behavior.

This is most noticeable when using Xbox Music via my Xbox 360. Advancing between tracks could sometimes take 10 - 15 seconds to begin playing the nest track, and sometimes the track doesn't even play and just skips to the following. Up until end October, this wasn't the case. Also using Xbox Music app on my Android devices normally results in nothing being played when connected to my Wifi (which uses MWeb account). Switching off Wifi and streaming with 3G is fine.

As a side not, at work we also have a bonded ADSL business package with Mweb where I experienced the same issues trying to stream Xbox Music to my Android devices. Basically nothing wanted to play...ever!

I decided to test using an Afrihost account, and guess what, no lag, no delays in advancing tracks, and my Android devices steaming perfectly now over Wifi.

MWeb, please can you look into this. It will be the reason I move along.

Apparently mweb isn't for anything except browsing and reading emails.

Evening AdrianH

This is very odd, is only your Xbox affected? How is general browsing, streaming, etc?

I would like to have a look at this from our side. Please DM me the MWEB email address or username and I will provide you with feedback in due course.

I posted on the other forum as requested. To date, not even one reply from MWeb. I actually don't believe for one second this is even being looked at by MWeb.

MWEB Guy, is this going to be sorted or should I move to another ISP?

Hi

I believe that the admins have since replied to your post and they are trying to get some more info from you.

Dear MWEB Guy
One of the reasons I cancelled was because of my XBOX360 taking longer and longer to sign into my account.. I plugged the console into the fiber link at work and it signed in within 2 seconds. You guys are definitely doing something with online gaming and I won't have any of it.

@MWEB Guy

It has been a week since I logged this. Frankly the way how this issue has been handle is quite lack lustre to say the least. I was asked if Mweb can monitor my line to see what is wrong and I gave consent, that was on Thursday and I have heard nothing since. You would think any company with any sort of customer care would have stopped with the useless forum correspondence and phoned me directly to try resolve the issue. But that might mean putting some effort in from your side.

So, how long should I wait before Mweb actually fixes the issue? The fact is MWeb is the cause of the problem and Mweb needs to sort it out. Its not my line, wifi or devices because everything works as it should on both Afrihost and Vodacom. All I want to know is if Mweb can sort this or not. If you can't, its no problem, I cancel, you can refund me the rest of the months premiums I paid, and I will move along to another ISP that can resolve issues promptly.

I await your response.

3 weeks on MWeb still haven't managed to sort this out.

I would like to know why it hasn't been sorted out. Is it because Mweb doesn't care, or is it because Mweb has unskilled incompetent people working for them that don't know how to resolve the issue.

Nailed it.

@MWEB Guy
So whats the status of the issue? You asked to speak to the relevant people this morning so what time will it be sorted out?

My Xbox has also been taking longer and longer to sign in.

I didn't even consider that it's maybe the ISP as so many other people I know have complained about the same thing many not on Mweb so I just assumed it's Microsoft going down the ****ter considering everything else works just fine.

I can't say switching IPSs decreased my Xbox Live login time, but using XBox Music on MWeb is slow, laggy, and tracks sometimes don't play, but on other ISPs it works like it is supposed. But this is now 3 weeks later and Mweb are just dragging their heels evn though one of their other employees on another forum found some kind of streaming issue and P2P. As i said in my previous post, its either because that don't care, or son't know how to resolve it. Probably both!

Hi, I will follow up on this for you.

How IT proficient are you ?
Can you change the DNS on your router / XBOX ?
If YES, change the DNS to something else ie. (OpenDNS)
208.67.222.222
and
208.67.220.220
(Google DNS)
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
I had the same issue with YouTube and general "music" type streaming items.
They (MWEB) try and see if the item is in their cache to minimise traffic to outside own networks,resulting in a slow lookup /cache being presented

I will give it a go and provide feedback. Thanks for your suggestion.

I don't know hey.

I switch to my 1GB Afrihost account once in a blue moon and I'm always using Unlocator DNS services and my Xbox Live is always very slow to sign in.

PS3 and PS4 on the other hand are instant.

You might also want to try these steps:
  1. Press the [Guide] buton on your controller, go to [Settings], and select [System Settings]
  2. Select [Storage / Memory]
  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press [Y] on your controller. (It doesnt matter which device you select; cache will be cleared for all devices)
  4. Select [Clear System Cache]
  5. When prompted to onfirm storage device maintenance, select [Yes]

@Anthro, thanks for your suggestions.

I tried using both Google and OpenDNS but unfortunately it didn't make a difference when playing XBox Music on XBox 360. Advancing between tracks is still laggy and sometimes the track is skipped and a ! is shown. This only happens via MWeb I must add. Also, trying to play Xbox Music via android app also results in no music being played.

@SauRoNZA
Yes, the slow sign-in seems to be present across other ISP's as well. My biggest issue is the Xbox Music lag issue on the Xbox 360 app, and the totally not working at all issue when trying to use the Xbox Music Android app via my Wifi and Mweb which only occurs when using MWeb as my ISP. With Afrihost and Openweb and even Vodacom 3G, the app streams my music just fine. I have been dealing with somebody at MWeb and he beleives he is seeing something with regards to streaming and P2P that could be an issue. But this was 2 weeks ago and I am still waiting for any more feedback.

Some feedback:
All my XBOX issues went away on Openweb. The login to XBOX LIVE works like it used to when I bought the console. The XBOX Smartglass app on my phone also works smoothly.
