So today I signed up for the 384 uncapped unshaped line, since I was being shaped into the ground with Afrihost 384, i mean like 3-5 kb/s . I just did a test now before switching over and I got 0.07mb/s for download and 0.1 mb/s for uploading. Really ridiculous at this time of day. Just browsing is slow.

Now I switched over and it is much better and here are results for first speed test

This morning the net was dead, apparently since 3 am this morning for mweb clients. Around 9 it came back online. However, the whole of today my torrent speeds have been useless, hovering around 5kb/s. IT is strange, because the speedtest suggests that my line is running at max speed, so no shaping (as it should be). Perhaps the torrents are not seeded properly. However, I did change to my 384 afrihost account to see the speeds it was getting during today, and it was faster, around 15kb/s.

So far so, so....
 
MWEB Uncapped Unshaped 384 has been running well all day and all night.

I wonder if its in your area that's the root of your problem?
 
I tried some youtube videos and they load way faster, it is possible to watch them now on the fly. that is cool. Also, i got dumeter and when i watch a you tube i get a sustained 40kb/s which is awesome. Everything is running fast except my torretns. i swapped over to my afrihost agian to test the torretns and they are slow too now, so maybe you are right and there is a problem in the area.

It seems, every where is good, but today has been useless for torrents. Never goes above 5kb/s. this is weird. Youtube and Http and browsing is fast, but just torrents not happening.!
 
I don't use torrents much , but my emule is on 34kb/s and sucking up the internet as I type this

Weird that we have the same ISP and package only thing is that your in the Cape and I'm in Durban.

I have to use a HSDPA USB to surf the net as the mweb account is so saturated with the downloading :)

hopefully this works

edit: it is working. The high speeds are when i was downloading HTTP. IT flies. when it is nothing, i wasnt downloading anything. wehre it was getting only 10 mb is when i was trying some torrents.

These results were from downloading from news.mweb.co.za news server and also an large HTTP download. As you can see It was going fast for 12AM, then suddenly at 1AM, there was no internet and the speed slowly recovered only by 5 am. Something must have happened to the mweb network. still this performance is not good enough for unshaped account. Atleast get a sustained 118mb per hour (30kb/s).

Also after lunch the speed dropped again. Not sure why.

I was running NNTP and Http downloads till5 am when they finished. got good speeds from 9 am i was running torrents and I am glad to see that they are no longer dead. got soem good speed mid afternoon, still not the best but atleast they online.

11am till 5pm really crappy speeds. Most of this is HTTP and NNTP

Seems pretty unstable considering the price.

Btw. I wouldn't rely on MWeb news-server. Fairly useless. Worst news-server at this point by far. Even IS news-server which was notorious for sucking donkey balls is better. If it were me, I'd go back to normal MWeb "uncapped" account and get an overseas news account where you download VIA https. Get full speed on those from what I hear.

As you can see 7 AM this morning, my speeds just went down to 10kb/s second. I had a queue on news server and so that is all it is and the rate today has been bad. It seems to slow down during the day a lot and then speed back up in the evenings. This shouldnt happen becuase I have an unshaped account. What could be the cause for this slow down?

Edit: I added the last few hours of Tuesday. It was sh!!t all day from 6 am. what was happening on mweb network. Remember this is supposed to be unshaped.

How do you get it to DL as https? ALso is NNTP its own type of protocol or does it use http,ftp or one of the many others!?
 
Things have been pretty much normal for me connection wise. It IS odd how you'd get faster HTTP speeds than Torrent speeds on an UNSHAPED package but that cooooouuuuullld be max connection limits, OS MTU being set badly and other router based factors (forwarded ports etc). HOWEVER if your speeds on the exact same torrent are better on a different capped ISP account then I'd say it would have to be foul play or a poor route to your peers.

Given them a call or mail about your issues? Considering we pay 2x the price I'd say we're likely entitled to complain if torrents aren't as fast as HTTP.

The speed that is in red, denotes torrents. The other is news server. As you can see the news server has been crap since yester and continued till i switched over to torrents to see what the speed is like. Torrents were going at about 30kb/s which is pretty good.

EDIT: I added the rest of the day. YOu can see that the speed continued into the night but then slowed down badly at around 10 pm. Not sure why but my torrents seem to be better during the day than night.

I think you asked on another thread about my DL's on 384 shaped.. - IMO if you're taking between 110 an 120 MB per hour in the middle of day you're def unshaped. By comparison P2P DLs on my shaped account run at around 5kb/s between 8am and 6pm regardless of seeding and relevant settings. Wandering if it's possible that because P2P DL's are right at the bottom of the ISP's priority list you may only see 80% line speed at busiest network times regardless of the fact that you're unshaped. Would be interesting to hear MWeb's take on this.

I let torrents run all day, and you can see for some reason the torrents were poor during the night, but today they have been flying in office hours like they should be ! woot. I wonder why my night time is slow?

It seems like i finally figured out how to maximise my return. During the week, news server flies between 6pm and 8am, then i switch over to torrents during the day and voila, the best day I have had with a whoppiong 2.81 gb download. the two hours there with 40 mbs, if they had bee normal hours i would have cracked 3gb download. At the moment i am running 3.15 gb 24 hour window since yesterday i have done 130mb+ everyhour.!! wooooot this is good MWEB!!!!

what can I say, the data speaks for itself! A whopping 3.18gb in one day on a 384 line!! AMAAAAZING!!! Go MWEB, btw all of this is done on the mweb news server :D:love:
