Hi all,

I'm with MWEB and cannot get Unotelly to work on my Mac. I've gone through a series of tests with the Unotelly help staff, who now feel that:

"Based on the result of the OpenDNS test and nslookup test, it seems that your ISP is using transparent proxy or filtering services.

Call up your ISP to confirm this and if they could turn it off for you or make an exception for you to get UnoTelly working. ".

Does anyone know anything about this?

Many thanks

I'm with MWEB and Unotelly works fine on my Mac. I just add the two DNS addresses to the wifi settings and that's it. I doubt MWEB has different settings for different users.

It works fine with MWeb.
Have you changed your DNS servers under Preferences -> Network -> WiFi -> DNS?

I have. The tech supported seemed to indicate that my network wasn't supporting OpenDNS...any advice?

Same here works fine with Mweb on my mac 4mb uncapped line

You tried setting the Unotelly DNS on your router?

I'm not sure...just what they told me. I think I should try Chevron's suggestion of setting DNS settings on router. Is that safe to have all my browsing traffic go through?

Yes. Any websites that aren't supported like Netflix/Hulu whatever, all get routed to Google DNS anyway.

Please confirm: which DNS settings are you using on your Mac?

This is what mine look like and it works 100% with UnoTelly:

Thanks Chevron and Vinodh - will check and give your advise a try when I get home later today.

Will keep you posted.

Still no luck! Attached is a screenshot with my router settings on the left (netgear) and my wifi settings on my Mac. Any other tips?

Can you try setting up UnoTelly on your phone/tablet to see what happens? Might help figure out if your Mac has something strange going on.

Just a thought, apologies if you have done/tried this:

Have you opened the Unotelly Quickstart page from your browser?

It has to update the IP address you are operating from. If you open that page it will detect if there's issues and prompt you to update the network if necessary.

If you find this was the issue: I have a cron job that runs hourly to update the network info automatically. There are instructions for this on the Unotelly website.

Thanks for all the tips guys - unfortunately did not work.

I was anyways unhappy with mwebs throttling at approx 110GB and so I signed up today with afrihost 4mb premium uncapped account:

Good news: Unotelly now works
Bad news: Netflix streaming on Afrihost's 4mb premium line is so poor compared with that of my previous mweb standard uncapped 4mb line. Barely watchable!

Will be calling them in the morning to check it out.
