OK, so I'm not what you call a heavy downloader... but this 1 kB/s speeds on my torrents are getting irritating

I'm using a 384k line with MWEB's standard Uncapped package for R219... but I'm really thinking about moving on the the UNSHAPED offering at R499.

The most I would download is probably 50GB a month (Thus far I havent even touched 30GB/month as yet)... so do I go for the UNSHAPED or not? Does it really offer full speed downloads throughout the day/night?

Thanks in advance!

hi.
if you would download max 50gb than give a try to wazzup internet.they are really good and unshapped. did you say mweb? what web? is there any company call mweb?do you call mweb isp?no i dont think so:).
Try wazzup. Here is the their web site http://www.wazzup.co.za/.
cheeers.

@human75 - I take it you work for wazzup?

Anyway, moving along...

So, is anyone using the 384 uncapped unshaped? And if so... how is it?

I don't know if I could justify R500 for unshaped 384, I'd rather fork out some extra and get uncapped 4 meg.

At the moment my uncapped shaped 384 is a pretty sad experience.

Hi,

I was apprehensive but I moved onto the unshaped 384 account yesterday around 17:00.

Two minutes later it went from 2 kB/s speeds too 25 kB/s speeds.

This morning before I left for work it was on 34 kB/s

All I can say is that its worth the money !

I will update on the data that I pulled from yesterday till present when I get home in an hour or two.

Update

Dude i am in the same boat here. Paying R502 for analogue line, adsl line and mweb uncapped shaped 384k i decent, but can be better on torrent speeds and streaming. Paying R650 for uncapped unshaped 384k is too steep for me. It will come out to R780 if you include the analogue line which is actually ridiculious. i would rather then just go 4mb uncapped. would be a waste of mony imho. i would pay a R100 extra if i can get unshaped.

Will give Mweb chance to end of month to see if things gets better otherwise i'm off to openweb gold. i don't want to download the whole internetz. will pull about 30GB-50GB p/m.

Anybody know if any of the ther ISP's are better then mweg on torrents during the day and night and also for streaming. i watched the wp vs sharks game last week streaming without buffering, but the quality was obviously horrific. if only telscum can upgrade all 384 lines to 512k or 1mb i would be happy.

Cosmic_nomad, I took the plunge and got it. It is nice to finally browse the web like it should be . I just ran a speedtest

and you can see it is lighing fast. Before I switched over this evening I test my afrihost and again i got less down than up, which is just unacceptable. Will give this new line a week to see how it goes! But so far good.

No.

Not if you have the slightest desire to use torrents.

*edit*

Am I going mad? I must have been drunk when I posted this.

:o

I somehow missed the unshaped part, even though I have already posted in this thread.

Sorry.

The Philosopher that's good news, taken P2P for a spin yet during office hours ?

I find it terrible that P2P will sit at 37 KB/s during office hours and not 38................... :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I decided to 'try' the 384 unshaped for a month and see how it goes. Called mweb on Friday around 10am and they switched me over. The change was immediate and noticeable (after checking my usage online a few hours later). When I got home on around 4pm, my torrents were sitting at 38KB/s (I'm used to anything between 0 and 2KB/s at that time of a weekday).

Yeah, so I'll give it a go for a month (or maybe until the end of November) and give some feedback. As of today:

Month____Total (MB)
2010-10__22459.25
2010-09__49582.59
2010-08__28563.04
2010-07__28893.91

Not good for torrents....i only average about 25-30 Gigs a month

On friday when I got unshaped uncapped from mweb, my torrents were good, but since the internet went dead 3 am on sat, my torrents havent recovered. Otherwise everything is blisteringly fast. My http downloads go at sustained 39kb/s. on DU meter it registers 40 kb/s. I think that something is wrong with the port that p2p uses. or something. I will wait till tm, and if it hasnt corrected itself, will chat to mweb, tech.

That's odd. I've previously managed a lot more than that using the shaped 384 account. See my previous post - mainly torrents making up those figures.

I have an openweb standered account 512k have managed to do 35gigs this month so far not bad although heavily shaped during the day really fast at night and weekends.
