Mweb VDSL Fon router/ Modem & Chromecast

Hi

I upgraded to 40Mbps VDSL last week and have been forced to use Mwebs junk Fon modem. My problem is I am unable to setup static routes on the modem to buy pass the hardcoded google DNS on the chromecast so cannot cast any overseas streams.

I still have my netgear modem with static routes enabled. Im wondering if i could connect the netgear to the network somehow and connect the chromecast to the netgear modem and still enjoy streaming on the 40Mbps line.


Ideally i'd just like to do either of the following:

1. Find a way to setup static routes on the Mweb Router
2. Just by a new router that gives me the ability to do that. but VDSL modems are slim pickings here in SA.


Any advice would be grateful. Im not very technical so will need clear instruction please, I follow those very well

Hi Frogstar,

We would be happy to assist you in configuring a DrayTek router for this purpose as per your option 2 above, using either the Firewall or Static Routes.

The two VDSL router ranges from DrayTek are:

DrayTek Vigor2760 series (Delight version - single/fail-over WAN routers)

There are wired and wireless N versions of the Vigor2760 D.

DrayTek 2860 Series (Dual/Tri- WAN routers)

There are wired, wireless N and wireless AC versions of the Vigor2860.

The Fon router is the best value for money VDSL router out there  You can definitely change the DNS to whichever DNS you wish to use. These simple steps below will assist you in changing the DNS on the MWEB Fon router.

Once you have accessed the router interface.

Click on home network, then interface below and then click on LocalNetwork.

Theafter click on configure

On the new window click on Edit under DHCP protocols

Then you can change them

Hi, yes you can.

In the fon router, click on "home Network on the left hand side then click "interfaces".

Once in there click on "LocalNetwork" then on the top right click on configure and you can set it up there

Yes, you will be able to use it over VDSL after flashing however you do it at your own risk and MWEB is not held responsible for any damages to the router.

It is a VDSL router.

Hi dryburn.macbook, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Our Fon routers are VDSL ready, so you won't need to flash the firmware in order to connect via VDSL. Furthermore, firmware flashing falls outside of MWEB's scope of support I'm afraid.
