I have just checked my Mweb ADSL usage readings and they do not compare to my NetMeter readings. The Mweb readings are much... much lower than what NetMeter says?

Is there any reason for this? Which one should I trust to reach my cap??

Check out the difference here: Mweb vs NetMeter readings

I would go on mweb's records.

Some of the upload data is nearly spot on...but the downloads seem totally out.
Maybe they are caching a lot of the downloads and dont including the cached data as part of your download stats?

Any mweb staff able to comment on this?

Update from NetMeter programmer

"Hi,

did you set the option "Network interface to monitor" to "All interfaces"? If yes, then try selecting only the interface you are using for your internet connection instead.

If you select "All interfaces", NetMeter sums up the download-readings of every single logical network interface. So if (for whatever reason) you've got two logical interfaces that are in fact one physical interface, NetMeter will add both readings and show the double value.

I have done the change and will keep you posted!-

Hi there

The data that you're viewing in the ADSL console application is data that telkom send back to our systems once you disconnect. We don't track your usage at all. We simply store the records that telkom give us for use in apps like MyDetails and the ADSL console. These records are only sent to us once the session disconnects, so there is a possibility that realtime data from bandwith monitoring apps will differ from the records that we have, because no record of the current session exists until after the disconnect.

That being said, I would personally trust one of the MWEB apps, as this reflects the actual data that will be used when determining when to cap you. Just bear in mind that the current usage record doesn't exist on our systems until you disconnect, and I'm not sure how long it takes for telkom's system to notify our systems of the usage after you're disconnected.

Sorry if you know all this already :p
