Does OpenWeb just resell MWEB uncapped or is it a different network all together?

Is the shaping etc as hetic on OpenWeb and do they complain about excessive use (300gig+)?

I know there is the OpenWeb Gold option, but its just a bit over budget. Anyone care to share their exprences?

From what I have seen, OpenWeb CEO is always ready to help out if there are issues, and thats always good :)

Openweb use a whole bunch of different networks. Everything from IS to vodacom.

So has anyone moved from MWEB to OpenWeb or the other way round? Any thoughts?

I cancelled my 4meg mweb and I'm moving to openweb. Need to wait for the calendar month notice to expire though.

Just go with openweb.

Old Post, Just updating it with my thoughts and Experience with OpenWeb.

I have been a long-time Customer of OpenWeb.

I have one of their then-premium 10MB Uncapped ADSL Gaming accounts.

I complained that my account was throttled to a near standstill where my account was spesifically designed not to be throttled for Downloads or Gaming.

OpenWeb sent Emails saying that my account would not be throttled at all up to a monthly usage of 320 GB. Thereafter only browsing would be throttled as per the below email:

Introducing our brand new Premium Uncapped Shaping system. All accounts are unshaped until you reach the below amount of GBs in a new month. These values are adjusted monthly as the network load increases or decreases. They will never be adjusted during the course of the month. Once shaped, you will enter the Home Uncapped Premium shaping pool, with a MUCH lower contention ratio and higher priority on the network. Shaping will only be applied when the network is busy. You will still be unshaped between 00:00 and 07:00 daily, guaranteed, no matter how much bandwidth you have used.

I can confirm that they Throttle you to death!

Terrible ISP for Downloads.

and:

I have an account with OpenWeb that I wanted cancelled ASAP due to Service issues.

I sent an Email cancelling my contract effective Next week Monday. 27th July.

Based on my contract with Openweb I should be able to do that as when I signed up with Openweb they had a policy stating that "You can leave at any time without any additional costs. No Notice period required."

So essentially You could try them for two weeks. If you did not like the service you could leave and only be billed for two weeks.

Now they send me a reply:
"Your account will expire at the end of August 2015 as per the calendar months cancellation notice period required. If you are on a debit order your final debit will occur on the first working day of August 2015.
Your reference is this ticket number.
Whilst we are sad that you have chosen to cancel your account we hope that you will return to the OpenWeb family soon!"

Not Acceptable.

I do not recommend OpenWeb to anybody.

I've been watching my outlook trying to send an email for 3 hours this morning and youtube is stuck on the loading circles. I certainly would not recommend this torture

I was with them for 9 days (Beginning Aug) and also cancelled due to the shaping. Received the same email that I need to wait until end Sep.

Double whammy: unusable service due to shaping + you are 'locked into them' for 2 odd months after cancelling.

If you enjoy throwing money at an unusable product, you will enjoy openweb.

Is openweb really that bad - I was going to change to them - they seem to have some nice deals now. But does not sound like I should.

Yes they are. Got so frustrated with them , that I just opened an account with Axxess, even though I still had to pay an extra month after cancelling. Will never ever go back to Openweb, even if they give there contracts away for free. (O I forgot. They says there are no contracts - but you still have to give a month's notice to leave  )

Dat thread necro.

It is interesting to note that at one stage, Openweb was considered decent. As an ex customer, I can attest to this ISP going from one of the best to the worst I have ever been with. They literally had the market and managed to piss it away.
