So I dumped MWEB on 1/11, they have a form that has a field for "why dont' you love us anymore" stuff which of course was great fun filling in. Today I get a "we love you, please come back" email, they throw in a months free sub and wait for it, "MWEB Accelerator" and just in case I have had a humourlectomy they will drop a daily cartoon in my inbox, after rotting my brain with this puerile ****e I can get a free brainwash with Microsoft Encarta. At R145.00 per gig they make it so easy to just say NO. Had a good laugh though.

How pathetic, Same as Telkom. I will have to wait a short while to see what is to be as I am dumping ADSL1024 and will use my Sat link on infinite call again. Or downgrade to ADSL192 and 1GIG base and just use SAT 24/7 until all improves again (No HOPE). On the other hand maybe I must just drop Telkom, save 2000-3000 / month and then just emmigrate.

LOL, and in theory this ISP should be in the best position to offer cheaper packages with more bandwidth purely because of its size.
They should by default benefit the most from the per gig billing system, thus allowing them to be very flexible with there pricing structure, yet they are one of the most expensive, nice hey.

And that is the crux of the biscuit Sneeky, instead of offering innovative products and decent pricing they fall out of their tree with a "killer" product like 1gag (sic) for R145.00. I am sorry but the other so called value added s.h.i.t.e. is just not worth it.

Our whole company has MWeb accounts. I have however been trying to convince everyone to move, and slowly but surely its working.
We have registered our own domain name so we can start to become less dependent on MWeb email address's.
MWeb want to charge us almost R30 a month to have email alias's using that domain, per email address. Madness. We will just hookup a mail server to do it.
We are in the process of shifting everything off MWeb to another isp.
We need to first migrate everyone off the defualt MWeb email address's to the domain name based one. Once that is done and in place, its asta la vista Mweb.
The one good thing about MWeb, and there is one, is that I travel quite a bit and most of the main stream hotels now have wireless hotspots.
At the airport or at the hotel its quick and easy to get on the net to send mail and stuff as MWeb offer this feature free.
It, for me really is the one and only value added service and it will be missed. Would love to goto an isp that offers something similar.

MWeb's business model is exactly the same as AOL's was 5-10 years ago. ie It's driven by first time internet users: Get all the new sign ups to the internet through saturation advertising and "guide" their internet experience every step of the way. If they realise that they're being controlled and quit for one of the (many) better ISP's, "who cares?", there are plenty more newbies going online every day.
The problem with this is that eventually the population reaches "internet saturation point" and the pool of newbs runs out, while the people who quit because they've wised up and realised that they don't need an over priced nanny service grows.

I have been told that you can access these same hotspots with a dialup mweb account as well!!
On detecting the network you are just confronted with a login screen that then has a few options like credit card etc. One is MWEB and you just login with your normal login/password, works very well and for the most part is pretty nifty and is the only value added service from MWeb worth a damn, for me at least.

MWEb sent be a letter to my P.O. Box and when I opened the thing these three boxes popped up out of nowhere and hit m in the face (litteraly) and was like "Oh my word!" and they shoved their ADSL down my neck. I am not kidding. It was very disturbing those boxy thignys that just POPPED out of nowhere!
