Could anyone who uses Mweb ISP atm, or who has made use of them in the past, tell me whether they provide a choice between shaped and unshaped accounts?

rang them up a while earlier and they dont seem to offer any choice at all

would appreciate any knowledge on the matter

alright who is a nice ISP to switch to then? looking for good alround internet speed + reliability, unshaped, and as low WoW/GW latency as is possible..

any suggestions would be greatly appreciate :o

Web Africa
and if you're looking for local bandwidth go for Openweb.

The ideal solution would be to have WA Pre-paid unshaped acc for international gaming and a standard or pre-paid shaped acc for everything else. That way you don't waste expensive unshaped bandwidth on just plain browsing. ;)

wrt speed and reliability, all SAIX based ISP's will have the same speed and reliability, since they just purchase bandwidth from SAIX, same goes for IS based ISPs.

So since Mweb is shaped SAIX, a shaped SAIX account for WA will perform exactly the same. You'll just get much better customer service from WA :p

WebAfrica is very good, used them often, and I've used Imaginet for about 3 years, they're also very good. Both have great support.

same goes for axxess...very good support and wow latency usually between 500-600ms

well i play WoW on my mweb and on my WA accounts and dont see any diffrence. latency is normally about 600-800 so i dont really see y a unshaped would make such a diffrence considering the price diffrence

Rofl I get those kinda latencies on my IS account.

On SAIX unshaped you would get much better latencies, probably anything from 200-400ms. Besides it wouldn't really be too expensive if you buy WA's unshaped prepaid because your unused data rolls over into the next month. If you do have a WA unshaped prepaid and getting those kind of latencies, then something's up with your line.

Web Africa seems the way to go then :)

thing is I have an Mweb email address provided to me by my subscription which i have been using for years for both business + personal use so to say goodbye to it would be a big blow. i have contacted Mweb about the matter and the best option i can see is sticking with them on the lowest subscription rate soley to keep the email addy. i figure thats the only way i can really do it but maybe someone knows a way i can keep it without staying with Mweb? its an @iafrica.com address, and as iafrica was gobbled up by Mweb i reckon it falls under their control..

any help would be as always very appreciated :)
