Hi all

Here is the scenario im faced with,
1.we have our mx record and domain registered with vox.
2.we have a public ip that points to our mx record provided by vox
3. We have an isa box that routes mails (mx record) that enters the isa to spam filtering server and from there to exchange.

Now, we have signed up with vodacom business to provide us mpls network and connectivity for our company, as part of the contract i have also taken a firewall and ips hosted with vb. please note that my mx records are still hosted with vox at this stage.

So we have been setting up the firewall and have come to the portion where we would like to route mails using vodacoms network. Since the public ip from vox points to our mx record , how can this be achieved ?

Will i need to move the mx and domain records to vodacom?

Other factors include,

Vox provides us with internet connection on site, but now that we have vb , i will be giving notice to vox

Thanks in advance

FJ

First things first move your domain DNS hosting away from vox. Then once that is done you have full control of your DNS and can do what you want.

You could give vox notice that they must release your domain to another ISP and then VB could move it to their servers, or alternatively host your DNS with someone complete neutral in this case that are not doing your internet connectivity and who won't hold your domain ransom.

Thanks, I will do

do you have recommendations on who i can use ?

.... or alternatively host your DNS with someone complete neutral in this case that are not doing your internet connectivity and who won't hold your domain ransom.

The most important factor to check/correct/manage regarding someone holding your domain ransom, is the registrant details at http://co.za/whois.shtml. If this is you, you can arrange directly with Uniforum to delegate the DNS for the domain to anywhere you want, a process that takes 24 hours. If your ISP is the registrant, change this to your own details asap, and fire them for employing such unethical tactics!

I would suggest getting a provider that can spool the mail for you at a datacentre it can cost as little as R500 a month, totally worth it. Then ask Vox to point it to the spooling server's ip. When al this is done then start the process of moving dns
