Anyone had a go with the Nokia 5800 version of Mxit? I've been playing around with it for about 10mins now and here are some of the issues which i encountered:

1) Scrolling through contacts and messages screens or any other screen on the mxit interface which requires scrolling is extremely difficult. My suggestion would be to make the scroll bar bigger or scrap the scroll bar and allow the user to scroll on the screen with their finger similar to the way you'd scroll with the web browser.

2)Tapping on a contact instantly brings up the messages screen for that contact. It would be nice if Mxit made use of the phones resistive touch. Maybe tap once to highlight the contact and tap twice to view messages. Then within the messages screen tap twice to type a message.

3)Maybe make contacts icons slightly bigger for people with big fingers or make it user adjustable to suite different users.

These are the only issues which i have encountered so far. Anyone else agree or have different issues?

um i downloaded mxit on my 5800 under the "OTHER" phones category, they didn't have the 5800xm listed as yet, anyway the other one i downloaded works well, it has the on screen navugation control keys so it's pretty simple to scroll etc ...as for making your contacts bigger etc try going into application setting and turning off the on screen navigation and increasing your font size, this should solve your problem however you might not like mxit without the navi buttons ..try it out ...else if you just using it at home then do what i do ...use mxit pc :)

There is a version designed specifically for the 5800 that was released a couple of days ago. If you go to the mxit download page it should automatically pick up your phones model number and link you directly to the download of that version. Give that a try and let me know what you think. As for the version you're referring to, I don't really like those navigation control keys. I think it would be better if some sort of virtual keyboard came up by default when using java apps that aren't compatible with the phone

Hi Bmboy,

any specific differences between this one and the older version?

Once you get used to the onscreen virtual keys, it's pretty fast, i'm almost as quick as when i had a phone with buttons.

Well basically this version occupies the whole screen. The main difference is that all input methods have been programed to use the touch interface. If you have big fingers its very difficult to navigate around it. My fingers are small and even then it's difficult. I find that even when using the stylus its difficult to scroll. Also I noticed that this version does not support photo capture. You also cannot just highlight a contacts name on the contacts menu because a single tab on the contacts name brings up the message screen, that is why i would recommend that it be programmed using resistive touch. All in all the interface in my opinion is way too sensitive. You should try it out for yourself and leave your opinion here. Hopefully the guys at mxit will come across this thread.

damn, it sucks!! How do i roll back to the previous version?

Greetings,

Thank you for the comments and suggestions, much appreciated. We will have a look in to this. :)

I dunno if anyone else experiences this but the GPRS/3G status doesn't stay permanently on the top left corner. It would be cool if it were fixed. Also a battery indicator would be nice. And making use of the front and back camera to capture pictures.

help please...tried downloading the 5800 version of mxit and the 'other' version and it still doesnt allow me to scroll...any suggestions??

I downloaded installed to my 5800. Now its no longer on the menu and I cant reinstall it and also cant find it under installed apps. What now????

I just tried mxit V5.9.In my opinion the scroll bar still seems a bit too small and it doesn't scroll consistently. ie when scrolling down for example it seems a bit jumpy, it does not scroll smoothly. Also the menu, write and contacts/back keys are so small that it sometimes doesn't even register a key press. I have to tap the screen a few times before it recognizes the selection. So far those are the only 2 problems which i have encountered.

did anyone get mxit to work on the 5800 properly? i'm also having the same problems wrt scrolling on a 5800... any suggestions?

5.9 is terrible on mine! The touch screen sensitivity is completely off, about half a cm.

Mxit 5.9.1 is worse than its predecessor. Its difficult to even select items from the menu tab and impossible to select log off. If i try selecting log off it selects settings or multi mix tabs.

5.9 was better than pro on my 5800 as I could now scroll with good aim. 5.9.1 is a total nightmare. It is impossible to use. Like bmboy said, logoff can't be selected and I have to select a few tabs below the actual tab I need open in order to open it. Rolling back until this is sorted out.
