So my mxit stopped working on saturday night, after doing something that no one at mxit ever thought anyone would do (logging in on a friends phone) my account stopped working. so i retrieved my pin, which gives me the wrong pin and neither my pin nor the given on lets me log in, but offcourse mxit made bout R10 of me from all my pin request attempts. then i emailed em a few times, just kept getting automated reply saying i should reinstall mxit. great. now i phoned em bout 5 times and went through all the different automated response things, not a single useful one. have mxit broken then incredible standard of customer support set by telkom....?

I don't think MXIT should associate an account with a phone number. Every other internet service in like the whole world uses email. So much simpler!

errr its mobile, hence cellphone number

I haven't used the mobile client in about a year now. I use Pidgin so I can connect over many protocols (MXIT isn't too popular amongst my friends). Anyway, I, too, have had a lot of hassles changing phones and numbers, I just think if email was an option a lot of issues like this could be avoided. Also, how secure is sms? Not many people (I know of) have passwords on their smses! My MXIT number expired a while now it could get recycled and I could lose my account- email would avoid that too. I was there when MXIT started (not quite- got it about 5 years ago) and back then email wasn't practical (for me at least) but now I think it should be added as an option!

i send the request from my phone, got some random other pin back, neither worked.

yeah they shoudnt use phone numbers, hell just let u pic a name. whats the point of controlling it. cant log in with pidgin or any phones. created a new account now from another phone number :/ not a fan at all, but then, if the girl is hot enough, get her client ;)

Get real and get a life .... if you sent 5 MOs to their shortcode then MXiT would be lucky if they made R1 from their revenue share of the shortcode. Its a frigg'n free service used by millions so I seriously doubt that your rant is going to effect their revenue stream.

Perhaps you should not be such a leech and use your own phone next time buddy - gues MXiT has an anti leech filter :D

mxit have a support line? they should close it IMHO. Its like having an MSN or Yahoo Messenger call-center... can you just imagine the calls... oi wei.

I stand under correction here, but didnt i read something a while back that for security reasons upon install Mxit binds the inital login to the client installation? So you cant login to mxit using a new number on a phone already installed and using another mobile number.

I suspect if you install a fresh copy on another phone it will be fine.

Mixit doesnt care. Their solution is always a clean reinstall. Like most busineses in SA sorting u out is a minor issue.

Sounds like a user problem...
You logged in on a friends phone and then forgot your password?

To get your password you need to sms from the cell number of your account.

Good morning BrokenLink,

It is possible for a person to log into their account using another cell phone with a different sim card in. The MXit profile does not link to the sim card at the time it is used, it only uses the airtime from the sim card in the phone.

If you logged into another phone with your details and did not change your password when logged in then you should not have a problem accessing your account from your phone once again provided that you are still not logged in on your friends phone.

Depending on what error message you get there could be a few causes why you cannot log into your account. If you can give me the error message then I will be able to assist you further.

If you do however get the incorrect pin message. Then you will need to do a pin request. Note that you need to sms from the same sim card that you are registered to MXit with in order for us to send you the correct MXit Pin. Sending the sms from another number that is not your registered MXit number will send you the MXit Pin for that sim card. So from the number you are registered to MXit with, sms the word PIN to 34006. You will receive an sms in return containing your lost MXit Pin. This sms does cost R2. Once you have received the pin then enter MXit, choose the LOGIN option and insert your details. Press ACCEPT and you should be able to log into your account.

Let me know if you still have problems. If you do, let me know the first three digits of your cell number, cell phone make and model plus the service provider you are using.
