I have had 3G now for 8 months, and can honestly say that my experience with this service is much better now.
I live 10 blocks away from the nearest 3g tower.
The first 3 months I used gprs, struggling to download my gig.
Then I got the external antenna.
Using the external antenna, which was made for the Option card I managed to make the connector fit in my Novatel card with pliers and insulation tape. I had full gprs signal, and sometimes edge. I was impressed.
Then one day while playing around with my settings I accidentally forced the card to connect to 3G Only. It connected, and I was beside my self. Signal strength 0-1 bar, but I managed to get a descent connection once in a while. So the next step, get a better signal. I moved my pc on top of my desk, next to the window on the second floor. Taped the antenna to the burglar bars, and got 1-2 bars. After a few weeks playing around with the antenna's position and the new dashboard software I got 2 bars and a good reliable connection. I have also seen a major speed increase in the last few weeks when connecting during the day. Now I get 3 bars (don’t know why) , and are very happy for a guy who is not supposed to have a 3G connection.
