Hey guys at exactly 8:30 this evening I applied for the 256k connection. I am faxing the following to them tomorow morning at 10am:

1.Service agreement
2.Copy of ID
3.Proof of earnings (IT 34 tax assessment)
4.Proof of residence with a telkom account! haha
5.Payment account verification (Bank statement)

I will call them at 12pm to find out if they have it and from there we shall await the credit check. HOw does the first payment work? If i am aproved do they take the R500 as soon as I get a thumbs up? And what about the rest of this month? Do I pay for the rest of it or do I only start paying once I get my modem? Lastly and I will only ask this once more... is everyone SURE that Melville is coverd? Thanks guys! Bandwith and 24/7 connectivity here I come!!!!!!![:o)]

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

CMM - if i'm not mistaken (i.e. don't quote me) you can take the modem back and cancel the whole kaboodle if it doesn't work - as long as you do it within the first two days.

phone the call centre and verify this with them. but a friend told me that - he's also applying for it, and he's in Krugersdorp.

We took my modem there and checked his signal, he got one light without a cantenna (same as me next to my desk)

We're going to check it again this weekend with a cantenna.

if all else fails... influence with hammer

R500 goes off after you've been approved by the credit department.

First payment is in advance and pro-rata

So at the end of the month, you pay for the next month plus for the days you were connected in the current month.

They bill you pro rata. So for instance, if you have the 649 rand package, they will bill you at the end of this month for:

649/(total days in month)*(days left of the month)+(Delivery and Deposit fees, about 570) + 649(next months rental in advance)

*note* 570 goes off as soon as you're approved *end note*

So lets assume you got it today, they will bill you at the end of April about 1435, this is without the extended warranty/insurance of about 15 rand per month. Then next month it will be 649 etc.

You may cancel within 14 days if I'm not mistaken, if they have your area as "good signal" on the map, you can freeze your account until they can sort things out and you get a signal, or alternatively you can push the modem so deep up their asses they would be considered a new tower. [:D]

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Hello,

Your friend in krugersdorp has basically no chance - I have a friend right on the border of Roodepoort and she has absolutely NO signal. Worth a try tho...

As a wierd experiment, I brought my modem to RAU. On the way home, the following areas had signal, and their relative wealth (ie if they can afford it):
RAU (relatively wealthy)
Auckland Park (relatively wealthy)
Westdene (poor)
Delaray (poor)
Florida Park NO SIGNAL (relatively wealthy)
right through to Horizon (near westgate) where I stay, which has signal again.

Whoever gave the go ahead for a tower in Westdene/Delaray (they get 4 lights!) was silly. These people can't even afford window panes.

LOL!!!!

I almost did this to them.

Ok, update, I faxed through everything I had to, got a cal back within 2 hours and the friendly lady on the other side told me that the faxed documents came out all squashed and all 4 pages came out as one!? NO idea so dont ask, faxed it through from Postnet and everyhing came out fine or so I hope. I will find out tomorow, so far so good.[:o)]

> Florida Park NO SIGNAL ...

Floracliffe, Florida Park, Cnr. Daniel Malan/Macmillan tower is probably still not operational then.

Ok, the fax went through, the documents are there everything is perfect, now the CREDIT CHECK! (shiver) and they told me to call them on Monday to find out the result, hold thumbs guys![:D]

Chill. Almost everyone passes the credit check. If you think you can fail then normally you wouldnt apply so dont panic. As long as you earn enough then they are happy.

So lets say I call monday and they say i am good, what happens then? How long does the modem take to deliver etc?

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

Sorry, thanks , lets hope it goes that smoothly yea

Ever since I saw your post I have been in two minds whether to ignore it or flame you. I have finally decided to have my say.

You forgot to mention Horizon (poor white trash). I will let you work out for yourself in which area I stay.

PS it's not Horizon.

Of course I don't look busy.....I did it right the first time.

I am in Krugersdorp, Noordheuwel ext4. 18% signal, with cantenna 32% signal

Err... okayy...

Unfortunately the facts remain that certain areas are poorer than others (perhaps you are just the exception to the rule). I drive through them every day, I see it every day. It seems silly that Sentech provided people who cannot afford it (as easily as other people) with the best signal.

You can call my area white trash, be my guest. I will not gratify your comment by defending my area. Your reponse to my message clearly shows you belong where you are.

I stand corrected regarding Krugersdorp then, they must have enabled a tower recently.

Glad to hear it! I'll get some friends who stay there to sign up now.
