Hey Guys,

I have started this thread as I have a couple of questions about renault and my clio.

So far, I am loving the car. Performance is great. ;)

No, for my first question. I think the battery of my key fob is flat. For those of you who don't know, I had to google it myself. :D

A key fob is a type of security token: a small hardware device with built-in authentication mechanisms.

I have tried to google it, but I would like an idiots guide on how to replace the battery? I would go to renault, but I am guessing it is going to be costly. Will phone them tomorrow.

2nd Q, do you guys maybe know of a scrap yard in midrand that "stock" renault clio's?

Your remote has a tiny little battery in it that can be bought at any one of those general type stores usually found on the perimeter of your local Pick 'n Pay. Takes all of about 2 and a half seconds to fit and should cost about R10 depending on where you go.

A pity you're in Madrand as I could guide you to several of those stores down here on the coast.

As for scrap yards, you might want to pay Harry's a visit near Alex on Louis Botha.

Thanx dude, but don't know how to open the key itself... :o

Will check out Harry's. :)

The key fob splits into 2 parts with a sliding action

There may be an arrow embossed on one side of the key fob pointing towards the metal part of the key - this shows the direction this side of key will travel when you split the 2 parts. The metal part of the key will stay with theside of the plastic fob which has the arrow on it.

The thicker part of the fob (which contains the battery - this was a CR1220, 3V in our case) will move backwards away from the side attached to the metal part.

Method

Put key fob in-between finger and thumb and push backwards it will split in two. No tool is necessary.

Not from experience but from google :)

LoL. :D

Anywho, I now have a couple of problems with the car, so 2 questions again:

1. Is the garage, where I bought the car, obligated to fix problems with the car? Not the small stuff, stuff like the aircon not working and the brakes not working like they should?
2. Can you cancel the deal? How do I go about, if possible and will I loose anything?

Okay, maybe that is more than 2 questions. ;)

Yes, they are obligated to fix it. Under the CPA they may no longer sell a car "voetstoets" and they must fix it.

You are also entitled to return it within 3 months if you can prove that they have not been open and above board with you.

My wife checked the contract again and it says there that all cars are sold as "voetstoots" and deposit not refundable.

Yikes that sucks. When I bought a previous car, I had a one month/ 1000kms warranty/guarantee from the dealership(Ford) besides the SA Warranties one I took out. Was there ANYthing like this in place when you took delivey?

Regarding your two problems. Exactly what is wrong with the Aircon and brakes? Details please.

OK

If the car is financed you have a 5 day cooling off period in which you can return it.

If you have done under 1000 k's you can also return it, but you must contact the Industry Ombudsman as they will make sure that you have all your ducks in a row.

Even if the dealer has sold it to you voetstoest, it is up to him to make sure that you are actually happy with what you have bought.

Let this little story be a warning to anybody considering shelling out cash on a car from some little side street dealer. They will try and get away with murder, and in most cases manage to get away with it as well.

Nope, none that I can see on the contract.

If you can't see it, I will post here. :)

Thanx, I have kinda decided to do things myself, as I don't want them to do a half @$$ job, just to get me off their backs. :(
