My computer was compromised through team viewer this weekend

Happened to a few friends over the past few weeks, Teamviewer has been compromised but they will never admit it. Just get rid of it, problem solved.

Teamviewer uses a 4 digit pin by default.

Not hard to bruteforce.

Vnc/rdp over a secure VPN?

Used to use VNC but TV is just so convenient and easy to setup.

I also use TV to remote into family computers when they're completely stuck and desperate and I can't fob them off onto their ISP (yes, I am an evil person  ) and getting them to download and setup TV is an absolute breeze (click, click, click - what's the password on your screen, and voila).

/shudders at the thought of trying to get my sister/sister-in-law/brother/brother-in-law/mom to setup a VNC connection

AFAIK Teamviewer now has a two factor auth facility. Probably a good idea to use it.

Bank refunded me! \:D/

What do you mean with two factor auth facility? I had a password to log onto my account and another password(different to the account password). I have to admit, they weren't very strong but not exactly weak either Mix of uppercase and lowercase with numbers 8 characters long

OP got off lightly. I got taken for 46k about a month ago. Also Team viewer / PayPal. Was a sickening feeling waking up to a bunch of transactions in my inbox.
