My data gets used even though I'm on the net.

Yesterday I bought a new laptop (Acer aspire 7741G) and last week I bought a Vodafone K4505. Yesterday when I was testing the internet connection, everything was ok. But today all of a sudden, my data gets used up very quickly, even though I'm not doing anything at all, why is this? I don't think it's updates, but I can't be sure since I don't know how to view and find out what's "eating" my data. A minute ago it was 1MB used, now it's 20MB, soon it will be 100MB, this is bad

I downloaded netlimiter off the net to monitor what applications are using my connection. Found a few culprits. I'd suggest you give it a shot...

Silly me. It was windows 7 downloading updates, i'm new to this windows 7 setup and couldn't find out where to look, but i'm sorted thanks

ahh, the beauty of a new pc and not knowing how to disable updates

Sadly, where these products are produced (software or hardware) people generally have decent, cheap internet so automatic updates don't effect them!

don't forget about that damn Adobe Updater, it's more stealthy than a Ninja, and downloads pretty quick

lol. One more reason why I love Ubuntu. It does not update anything without me knowing about it. It also tells you exactly how many megs will be downloaded for the update.
