My desktop has slowed down

My 6 month old Virtual machine of XP, opens Photoshop quicker than on first install, everything is cached.
 
Does a virtual machine work like a normal install of xp, for instance you open photoshop it opens, close and opens really fast, boot xp and it opens kuk slow again?

For some reason xp can only open stuff up fast when you have been working on the machine once you reboot same speeds. Not sure how a VM works with xp to be honest.

It works exactly like a normal PC, not exactly as fast as a native but pretty close when running XP.

java apps are notoriously slow to start, but once running are OK. .asp apps can suffer the same fate as they also have to loaded and cached the first time, after which they run much faster.

So you are saying that there's a PC that only uses Pastel and checks email for 4 whole months and the system gets slower and slower? And besides those two tasks nothing is done on the pc right?

Well then:
  • Defrag your disk..emails takes up space
  • Use a system cleaner to remove temp files and clean the reg.
  • Tell outlook to compress the emails once in a while or delete some emails
  • Get a faster hdd since read/write speeds gets slower near the outer rims of the drive (though not by much)
  • Ask Pastel why their software is slowing your pc down :p

Well explain to me why my dad's Vista sp1 laptop is so crap slow it needs another fresh install? I had to do a fresh install 6 months ago and now I'm doing maintenance but a fresh install will sort it out for good again.

Since 7 is Vista polished I'm sure it will be the same case when he upgrades.
