Refer you to legal? Ha ha ha what legal? I don't think they have a legal dept. So funny when people get threatened

Who said anything about a department?

They only need on lawyer. Can even be a third party under contract to them for the statement to be valid.

And if someone is breaching the terms a conditions they signed how is it a threat? It's simply due process.

Well, your location is correct as I reside within TV. It really depends on the luck of the draw whether you get a tech that knows what VDSL is, which is sad. I think the biggest problem is that the call center doesn't understand and therefore the techie doesn't know that that is what you want and just closes the fault as he can't detect any issues.

Add to that Telkom's business systems do not distinguish clearly between the two, even if the backroom technical systems do ....

And I promise you man.. I phoned in twice and both people did not know what VDSL is....The first guy actually thought it was Fibre.

Do you have a funny accent? Do people often get confused around you?

Not saying there aren't issues at CW end but it could be as simple as not being understood correctly.

I've only ever dealt with them via chat or email and never had anything but the most knowledgable responses, so it seems pretty unlikely to me.

At the same time I know your average call centre agent isn't too bright either.

The fact that you have no post history here certainly doesn't add to the credibility of your claims.

When I first switch to VDSL it took a number of hours between Telkom and Crystal Web before someone was bright enough to inform me of this requirement.

This.

It makes no difference what line you have adsl vdsl fiber doesn't matter. It's irrelevant.

I have a web Africa and afrihost capped account which I use concurrently on a fiber connection, adsl connection and a vdsl connection at home.

So that's that.

What I want to know is the rep not knowing what VDSL is. That's the biggest shock to me here.

Certain VDSL configurations and a VLAD ID that needs to be applied otherwise they simply don't work.

So it is a bit more complex than ADSL and in many cases won't even work on some routers at all.

Same for ADSL2+.

You could have asked here, but usually it's the router default.

I'm yet to see it as a default.

In fact I have three routers here (granted not ones with built-in modems) that don't support the functionality at all.

Which is why I still use that MWEB FON piece of crap because it actually works.

So I can understand that frustration as ISP's aren't forthcoming about it and it seems to only apply to a minority.

The routermust support VDSL, yes. I am talking default settings if the built-in modem supports VDSL.

Yes I'm talking about beyond that not every VDSL modem supports VLAN ID's.

And mine that does certainly doesn't default to VLAN being on. And when you switch it on it defaults to 101 as the ID.

I've not seen any other router support VLAN 835 by default either.

Maybe it's because mine was a Telkom Pace, so they already configured it?
Nice to note, you should prob. make a thread in ADSL/VDSL discussions and stickey it, should help a lot of people out.

Yeah they probably have their own firmware on it.

But the off the shelf ones definitely aren't configured for it out of the box.

I wish i knew what ISP to use....ive been reading a lot to see the complaints and try to get info what ISP to choose. Im with axxess
capped acc now (they say its ALWAYS unshapped) , but my bloody torrents only run 1.4MB/sec as i type this msg here and im on a 20MB adsl line. When i used 4MB line my torrents went full 440KB/sec at night.

Anyone know why this is?

No use i have a 20MB acc, but it only run at 14MB speed. (it does sync on router 20477)
