I've bought plenty of things online but never bought anything off eBay before until this month that is.

Must say I am was surprised how quickly it got here. Shipped from the US in two weeks from order date. Damn but now I'm going to order a lot more stuff online :(

Got myself a nice HP IR receiver:

Delivery time normally differs, sometimes two weeks, sometimes two months. But the variety and prices you get to choose from makes it totally worth it..

You will end up buying more stuff now though:D

eBay is awesome. Search for what you want, change the sort to 'price and shipping, lowest first' (that way you can see who ships to South Africa).

Then find stuff for so much cheaper than you can get it here. Wonderful for spare batteries, cases, covers, accessories, etc.

And best of all, customs seems to overlook everything I buy from there unless is comes from America. Maybe they have something against America.

None. Only shipping which was $13 - pretty pricey but not when you're looking for something that's not available in SA. This was a kind of "feeler" purchase to check things out.

i bought a battery for a g1. couldnt find it here. got a customs charge. was yours a "gift"?

Only problem is SAPO.
Many ebay shippers don't offer insurance or registered mail as standard, and if your item has any sort of perceived value (e.g. a watch), you may not ever receive it.

I have ordered so much stuff from overseas and not once has anything gone missing.

That was the case for me for a long time.
Then I went through an eight month patch when not a single item arrived that had any perceived value. Things that did arrive were cable organizers, labels and such items.

I already have a wireless keyboard, tried using it for my media center but it's just clumsy and awkward to use compared to a remote.
I couldn't imagine not using one for xmbc. Switching to file manager and doing stuff. I like it.

Ye for me I don't do any complicated file management operations on the media center, just point and play basically - for this a keyboard is overkill.

yep i see now. since the upgrade my network cant see my openelec htpc. bloody annoying. need to sit down and sort it out. consquently my media player cant see it either. sometimes upgrading is not so great. the added features are awesome though. but maybe that is because i went from v1 to v3.:D
