Been running open cart on local host. Haven't managed to pimp my site that much yet? I assume that involves using php to recode the user interface? I've been spending more time on learning the business system as I want to get the site out there very soon....

Ipwn4 The pimping options in prestashop look good. For opencart go to their forum there are lots of discussions there. Let us know when you have something up and running.
Depending on the pimping part, I'll have it up by fryday...
My last question before I'm off to their forum, is it possible to develop the opencart offline and then upload it?

We just did it on the website in maintenance mode then when ready switched off the maintenance mode, so can't help there.

yes you could, but honestly i think it is more effort that it is worth, rather do it online, if it is a new store you wont have much traffic and if it is on an existing website just do it under a different directory then when done change the paths.

Just use Joomla and Virtuemart or the like - it will take 10 minutes to set everything up giving you a head start on jumping into the deep end of your fail train.

Lol another option I have yet to find, ja that pretty much what I needed to know... I don't want to redesign opencart, just need to move categories and offer shipping costs based on geo zones.
Took today off from everything else to just "play with it" and get the hang of everything... It's really mindblowing!

Everyone has an online computer store now. Good luck competing with the big boys. By the time you have factored in the logistics and your 1% mark up you'll still be more expensive.

Haha u aint seen nothing yet... The "big boys" arn't as cheap as they think, and in terms of logistics and overheads, what's that?? Haha wait till this thing goes live... The longer I can keep this a one man operation, the longer the prices will be stupidly low.

I'll have look at the stores, I'm rocking the default opencart template for now with small mods... I want to get it out as soon as possible so themes and actual mods will only happen afterwards. The biggest issue at this stage is sorting out all the legal jada dada... All a tad French to me but I've got a lawyer doing it for free. So far I haven't had a single expense towards this shop(well hosting and some bank charges + alot of supplier phone calls) and that will reflect in my prices.

As a little test, find some mainstream products from "the big boys" and pm me the details, I'll reply with a quote and you guys can judge for yourself.
and my last troll of this thread for today, does anyone have experience with linking live support to a mobile device? Would like to link the live support between the site and two iPads we have floating around. I'd like a free option but paid is also fine
We have a few sites running using Joomla and Virtuemart. Both are open source, with a good community following, powerful and very easy to deploy. I'm comfortable recommending these to anyone who wants to delve into eCommerce. your choice of host also becomes important. I still haven't found any SA online hosting companies whose servers support them properly. But many big US providers who offer excellent support and very affordable hosting packages. Speed is less of an issue these days for hosting and it doesn't seem to have an effect on SEO rankings in SA.
