After 3 years running almost daily, my first Sonoff Basic died today.

I noticed that it no longer switched on. Upon closer inspection it looked like it no longer had any power. No LEDs, no relay, no Wifi.

Opened it up and noticed that the connector terminals on the load side was getting lose from the PCB, but even after I resoldered them the thing was still pretty dead. It had lost its button years ago, and I never put it in a case (just connected it in-line with an extension lead -- not a good idea!). The PCB must have gotten warm at some point since the plastic at the back was slightly warped.

Kinda weird as it was in the same room where my Ultralink smart plug also was (that also seems kinda broken at the moment) but might just be coincidence.

What do you know, a R100 chinese smart WiFi switch is not something that will last forever! :P

One of mine had the ic chip blow apart. was weird as it happen when we were away on a fish tank light.

the others i have are in year 5 and working still.. not bad.

Years ago when I had a reef tank I ran all my lights on something like this,

Very simple and they never died, had 6 of them to control the lights.

I've had similar ones which I used to turn on/off lights before I did the whole home automation thing, and I did have one running my cheap router for years, basically turning off the router for 15 mins every morning to reset it.

Problem with these are that they lose time with power outages which makes them behind.
