He could try a full EEPROM reset, it'll wipe everything not on the SIM card, so backup everything before doing this!!!

With a full battery and no SIM card in the handset enter the following code: *2767*3855# note that the 3855 will show as ---- on screen.

The phone will reset and turn back on. Leave the handset on for at least a couple of minutes before turning off to put the SIM card back in.

You'll then need to request your MMS/GPRS settings again.
